Yesterday, I Awoke to Screaming Children

As you may imagine, it doesn’t know often in Texas. As a result, my children were yelling “It’s snowing! It’s snowing!” as soon as they looked out the window.
We all proceeded to freak out and get dressed as fast as we could.
My Weird Kids
And can you guess what my kids favorite thing to do is when it snows?
Throwing snowballs? Nope.
Making snowmen? Nope.
Eating snow? You guessed it.
These are also the kids who ask for frozen pieces of broccoli as I prepare dinner.
Like I said. Weird.
So, does it snow often where you are and/or do you eat frozen broccoli?

Here in California, we get a thin blanket a couple of times a year, usually.
As for broccoli, I recently started buying only fresh broccoli because my daughter informed me that she only likes it raw. Gotta make sure she eats her vegetables!

Well, it can snow in Middle Tennessee, and we got quite a storm Friday night and Saturday morning (no doubt the same weather system that caused yours). But we seem to be just a tad south of the heavier and more frequent snow line.
No broccoli, frozen or otherwise. Yuk. There was a family in my neighborhood when I was a kid that would make the most delicious homemade ice cream from the snow. I know that seems like a weird thing to eat in winter time, but it was so delicious we didn’t care!

Oh, yeah, it snows here in Houston all the time. At least once in a lifetime.
C-Ham, we always made snow ice cream in my family. Take a large bowl of snow (just skip the top snow, that’s cleaner) and add a spoonfull of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla. It’s great tasting, and actually fairly healthy - with so little sugar in it.

I’ve never seen real snow in my life - and i’ve lived 4 hours drive away from some of the best snow fields in Australia for the last 6 years!

Nobody in my family likes frozen brocolli, but we love playing in the snow. We get snow accumulation of an inch or more a dozen or so times a year and from November through March there is hardly ever a time when snow isn’t on the ground somewhere. Compared to where I grew up in the Pacific NW, I call this heaven.

We don’t often get snow, like you. On Friday we had a BLAST playing in the snow. One thing to note...my boys enjoyed eating the snow too. They kept bringing me chunks so I could try it too (I declined!). Anyway, I thought eating snow was really strange too....maybe it’s their age? I don’t know, but I laughed out loud when I read that your girls were doing it too!

When I was a kid, it snowed here all the time. Any more, though, it’s a once in a while event. Frozen broccoli? That’s a new one on me

We live in Texas as well and we don’t get snow. So Monday, when we got 4”, we were a little freaked out. Then Wednesday, when we got EIGHT INCHES, we were beyond freaked and figured it was the end of the world. Aren’t we supposed to be experiencing global warming? I guess that’s everywhere but in the great state of Texas. Ha Ha!

Jamee,
Whaaa?!! I’m so sad I missed you. (next time you come to town shoot me an email.)
Annie,
Your daughter likes raw broccoli? Wow. You must have secret mommy powers.
C-Hammer,
I’ve heard of snow ice cream...sounds yummy!
Euphrony,
How did you “always” make snow ice cream if it only snows once a lifetime? Hmmmm?
Lisa H,
Yes, I’ve actually had several friends tell me their kids like to eat snow...it must be an age thing.
Kari,
Eight inches?! Wow! You must live in the Panhandle. How fun.

"Always” as in every time it snowed. Abilene gets a couple of snows every year (plus a lot of ice, but ice ice cream ain’t so good).

Thanks Tressa. I thought the fence looked particularly cool (no pun intended).

Nope, we don’t live in the panhandle. That’s why it’s so odd for us to get so much snow. The last time we got snow we had enough to make a 6” snow man for the front of my dog’s house. Hehehe.
