Why An Early Bedtime Is a Bad Resolution…

My husband and I watched this game until Oklahoma tied it at 28...then we decided we should go to bed. We’ve been bummed all day that we missed this one.

You should be bummed!  You missed a good one, Kat.  Are you a Sooner fan who assumed that, once they tied it at 28, they were going to take it into OT and win there?  I gotta tell you, Boise State has been tough all year long.  I don’t think anybody outside of the Pacific Northwest had even heard of them before last night.  Zabransky, the QB, is from my hometown, and we’ve all known what he’s been made of for a long time.  Now everybody else knows, too.

That’ll teach you to turn off a good game before it’s all over!

Rick,
We weren’t actually sure who to root for. We felt like Boise State was the “underdog” or at least perceived underdog and we love rooting for the underdog. At the same time it was hard to root against a Big 12 team, since that’s Baylor’s Conference.

All in all, our lack of allegience would have made this an awesome game to watch because we would have enjoyed every play....if we’d stayed up! Ugh.

Everybody knows about Boise State, though, Rick. Who else has a blue field?

Why, oh why, would you go to bed with it tied?  That’s like taking someone to court, sitting through the whole trial, and then when the jury comes in to announce the verdict you stand up and say that you’re headed to bed and will read about the verdict tomorrow.  And you call yourself a sports fan!

And, as to blue fields, Missouri has (or at least had) a blue field.  Very disconcerting to look at on TV.

Yeah, if you’re going to be serious about being a true sports fan, you’ve pretty much got to commit to watching to the end, since you never know what you’ll see (or miss).

When I lived in California, I had a boss who used to give me Club Level seats to SF Giants games on occasion, and because we always stayed to the end regardless of the apparent outcome, at least twice we got to see amazing comebacks and astoundingly breathtaking finishes.

A few weeks ago, we were given tickets by our neighbor to attend the Titans vs. Giants game in Nashville, the first time we had ever been in the stadium. Even though things looked bad at the end of the third quarter with the Giants ahead 21-0, my wife and I followed our standard policy of staying until the end, and couldn’t believe how many of the “fans” were leaving with a full quarter still remaining.

For those who don’t know or haven’t heard, the Titans ended up mounting an amazing and completely unexpected comeback behind Vince Young, and beat the Giants 24-21 on a last-second field goal. It was also the beginning of an amazing streak of upset victories for the Titans, who now have a lot to look forward to starting next season, with an amazing young quarterback and a lot of room under the salary cap to pick up some serious talent.
