Whenever I Feel Old…

I remember that my grandmother, who just passed away last summer at the age of 86, was my age in the year.....

1951.

Isn’t that crazy?

She lived almost 3 of my lifetimes!

So if you’re in your 30’s like me and you’re starting to feel old because Converse shoes are in again, just remember, you could very well live another 60 years.

What makes you feel old? What makes you feel young?

(I promise to blog about deeper things soon, but sleep deprivation has temporarily put my deep thinking abilities out of order.)

Hearing American Idol contestant Jordin Sparks say she was barely born in the 80’s last night made me feel old.

The incessant chatter about menopause by my students makes me feel young. smile

Amy,
I hear you. Anyone born after 1980 definitely makes me feel old.

A good friend of mine brought our family dinner tonight (one of the benefits of recovering from labor and enduring these crazy newborn months).  She and I have been friends since I was 10 and she was 12. Now we are both in our 30’s and we have 6 kids between us. That made me feel a bit old too.

She’s thinking about joining my friend Kim and I in running a half marathon in January, though. That made me feel young.

Converse shoes in again?  I remember when they were in again the first time, now they’re,,,again again.

That makes me feel old.

Being able to interact with our Church’s youth group.  That make’s me feel young.

I am the youngest in my family, the youngest in my group of friends, etc.  I had kids young, so amongst the parenting group I feel young, just because my age is always pointed out.  But when I hang out with friends that are my age, not married with no kids, I feel old, or at least “out of it” !
I think I am going to have a complex when I start becoming the old one in the group.  I am going to feel really old.

what also made me feel old was when I saw a comercial for one of those compilation cd’s, and I actually liked all the songs, and remembered listening to all of them....

I have been feeling really old this past year (35).  The number has significance to me because it’s half way to 70.  While I know my Grandma is still alive at 87, I’d say the best years of her life are well over- she has dimentia, can’t walk, etc.  So I think I’ve reached the middle-age of the ‘good years’.

And the stresses in life seem to be increasing for me lately and I think to myself, maybe the ‘good years’ are already over.

Then I look into the eyes of my children and watching them experience life for the first time, and I’m young once again!

Okay, people.

Reading comments on a blog where most of the people talking about “feeling old” are at least 10 years younger than you—makes you feel old. smile

I don’t really “feel old” most of the time though, because the other members of my small group and most of my friends here are older than me. So I guess they make me feel young. grin

I got an invite to become an AARP member in the mail yesterday, complete with temporary card.  I’m going to try and use it today when I meet friends for lunch.  A 30 year old AARP member has to be something they don’t see every day.

Other than that, having kids, planning for retirement and teaching younguns makes me feel old.

MB,

I got one of those when I was in my twenties and used it for several gags thereafter.  The only problem, they aged my name as well- I became Davis Haupert!

After a year, though, they send you a renewal which you have to pay to continue with your membership benefits :(

I think feeling old depends on how you live your life. When your life suddenly becomes, work, bills, and “must do’s” then you are immediately, old.
