What In The World Have I Gotten Myself Into?

Saturday. SATURDAY. S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y.
...is the Bearathon.
13 point something miles - mostly in hills.
What was I thinking? I’ve run in hills once before in my entire life.
I’m not even going to post a goal time because I have no idea what to expect.
I’m kind of excited, though. I love the challenge. The opportunity to push myself harder than I ever have before.
I’m also afraid. I’m afraid of giving up. I would ideally like to run the whole thing, but the hills are a complete unknown. We’ll see…
So, any suggestions on what I should eat the night before (pasta?) and Saturday morning? Any other tips to help me survive succeed?

Don’t really have any suggestions for eating etc, but my advice is to just enjoy yourself—if you have to stop and walk for a little while, then so be it. That you are fit enough to take part impresses me...and how you go about finishing should be entirely your decision.

When I ran cross country in high school, we almost always had spaghetti the night before our races!
Good luck and have fun!!! I can’t wait to hear how about it. I know you are going to do great!

Well, I am not a runner, so I can’t give you any advice as far as that’s concerned.
But, before every race you seem to question whether you’ll be able to do it...and you’ve done it successfully every time! (At least since I’ve been reading.) So I’ll say good luck...but I don’t really think you need it!

YOU CAN DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT!
Drink lots of water the day before.
Don’t get out too fast! Try to be faster in the last half of the race than the first!
Okay this sounds gross, but try to poop the morning of! I know gross, but trust me ... not fun during the race!!!!
Have fun!! Have fun!!
& remember no matter what your time is YOU ARE A CHAMP for doing this!!!

Are there really that many hills in Waco?
Drink lots of water today and have some pasta for dinner.

Actually, there aren’t many hills at all in Waco...except in Cameron park. There are TONS of hills - twisting, winding roads..and the race is mostly in Cameron Park.
They pretty much found the hilliest part of Waco and put the race there.
Thanks for the kind words and tips everyone!

I currently am training for my first 15K....YIKES!!! I would suggest pasta of some sort the night before and if your race is in the AM....i would advise eating at least an hour and a half prior to the start. Oatmeal has worked good for me in the past, with some fruit and milk.....Some suggest a protein bar 30-45 min prior as well for added fuel. Since your race is so long, you probably don’t want to drink a lot at the last minute. Drink a lot of water tonight and maybe some gatorade or powerade in the morning an hour before race time.
I agree that the most important thing is to just enjoy the experience!!! You are running a half marathon for goodness sakes!!! That is so awesome!!!
I hope to be in your shoes (ha, ha) next year!!
Good luck..I can’t wait to read about it!!!

Good luck ! I don’t have tips, but I used to load up on pasta or baked potatoes the night before swim meets, or basketball games!

Good luck, have fun and let us know how you do. I didn’t realize you were in Waco. Howdy to my fellow Texan.
