We’re Such Dorky Texans…

We sang “Deep In The Heart of Texas” as soon as we crossed the border.
Then we continued to remark about how nice the roads are and how big the sky is here.
Where are you from and why do you love it?

I live in Texas right now, but I’m originally from Baltimore, Maryland. The only thing I love about Baltimore is that it’s up north and I love people commenting on my northern accent.

I live in Mi. It is funny I came across this because my husband said if we were to move to any state it would be Texas. I said, “Don’t they have flying cock roaches?” (I know nothing about Texas. My husband is under the impression that Texans are about family, faith and ummm beef. (I guess we both don’t know very much about Texas) I love Mi for it’s lakes and woods. We also have good weather, unpredictable yes, but no hurricanes, or really bad weather.

That is funny...I remember my cousin always singing that “I’m a Tex, I"m a tex, I’m a texas star...” song. She was from Texas and is a very loyal Texan.
I am from CA, and I love the variety of really beautiful landscapes, from beautiful beaches, to lakes, mountains etc.
I don’t miss how expensive it is to live there!

My hometown is St. Louis Missouri. I love St. Louis for it’s combination of interesting history, for big huge leafy trees that are everywhere, for the four solid and distinct seasons, but mostly for the wonderful down to earth people who inhabit it. I miss it tremendously sometimes. After four years in Cali, I still feel a stranger here.

I’m a 6th generation Texan, through and through! And when I moved back six years ago, I got out and kissed the ground and the border. Seriously.

I am a Texan, born and bred and this is where I always want to live. I am still in denial about the 11 months I lived in SC. Hehehe. We often travel to see my husband’s family in OK. The roads here are SOOOO much nicer. We have traveled to another state that “touches” Texas and let me tell you how much nicer the roads are than that state (not to mention no bayous to go over forever just when you need to pee!!!).
The stars are night, are big and bright.... sing it with me everyone.... (clap, clap, clap, clap, clap) deep in the heart of Texas!!!!!!!!!

New Mexico
I love the history (people were here before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock). I also love the artistic culture: art is everywhere. The history means that this art is often religous in nature (i.e., it hasn’t been totally secularized) and folk art is very popular. The native culture is also pretty strong here, and the natives still live in their ancestral homelands, unlike say Oklahoma, where most were transplants from when the early American’s removed them from the east coast. The weather is superb: well over 300 days of sunshine a year, yet we still get lots of snow every year (1-8 ft over the course of a winter) and it never gets over 100 degrees. I also like the closeness to nature and rural flavor of the state (a mountain lion was spotted by my neighbors just 100 yds from my property 2 days ago).
