We sponsor 3 incredible children:

Sathish lives in India and we’ve known him the longest. We’d been sponsoring him for almost 8 years.

He is an incredibly sweet and thoughtful 16 year old. He calls our daughters his sisters and always asks how they are doing. He draws amazing pictures for them.

I really, really love this boy and I hope to meet him someday.

Sophanie is our little girl from Haiti. She is sweet but even in her letters it’s clear she lives a hard life. Sometimes I’ll get her letters and wonder at the fact that I’m holding the same piece of paper she held. And our lives are so different.

Akakor Grace is from Uganda and we’ve been sponsoring her for less than a year, but I can tell already that she’s got some vision and spunk. She likes to correspond with my 6 year old and draw pictures for my younger two.

I love these kids. I pray for them, write to them and try to speak hope into their lives. I can’t change the whole world, but maybe I can change theirs.

I sponsor Fred.  He’s 6 and he lives in Uganda.  I send him letters and stickers and he writes me and asks when I’m coming to visit.

He also draws pictures of cats.  Or some sort of animal with stripes.  It’s hard to tell. smile

But I love that kid.  Mucho.  The first time I saw his picture, I thought, “I can’t live without him, this kid is part of my family now.”

Sometimes I think I needed Fred more than Fred needs me.

Albertina is 14 and lives in Bolivia. We sponsored her for just about 9 years. A few months ago she moved to a new neighborhood with no Compassion project. It still makes me cry. And I still pray for her. And it made me sorry that I did not write enough letters to her.

Jithin is our ‘replacement’. He is 15 and lives in India. Older children wait longer for sponsors, so when we could no longer sponsor Albertina, we asked them to look for someone who was older and might otherwise be waiting a long time. He shares common interests with everyone in our family. He writes his own letters in English(!) and puts my penmanship to shame.

My younger daughter wanted to sponsor a Compassion child, so she chose Margaret in Kenya. I think Margaret is six. Her father is in prison and she lives in an Aids affected area. She is the youngest of many children. She draws sweet pictures and is thrilled to have my daughter for her sponsor.

Thanks for the links. I subscribed to the Compassion Bloggers, but it’s they’re so emotionally overwhelming I can only look at so much.

I’ve been wanting to sponsor a child for a long time and have been putting it off with one excuse or another…
but I start a new job on Wednesday, so no more excuses.

Funny, I was just reading this on my own. I like her site so much. It’s just a blast. We chose our Compassion child to be as close to my oldest son’s age. She’s just adorable.

A little late, here, but I sponsor Munita in Kenya.  She’s a beautiful 7 year old who always bites her bottom lip in the photos I’ve gotten - so cute.  She also invites me to Kenya in ever letter.  I do intend to go at some point!  And I’m hoping to take on a second child soon…
