Time’s Up

If you were hoping to get a swat at Jimmy (um...Joel!), your time is up.
It’s now a federal offense (j-a-i-l) if you hurt my sweet husband.
(Although, being confined to a prison cell for a year with a large, bald, muscular convict named Snake is nothing compared to the hurt I’d inflict on anyone who laid a hand on Jimmy. I’m Asian. I know Karate.)
Tonight he was sworn in as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. It’s a volunteer organization that assists abused and neglected children who have been removed from their homes. Jimmy just finished the training program and in a few weeks a judge will assign him to a case.
Jimmy will be that child’s guardian ad litem (essentially their legal guardian for the duration of the litigation). He will represent the child’s interests in court and make sure that the child’s foster care situation is going well.
Jimmy has always had a heart for kids. He’s an amazing daddy and he’s going to do a great job as a CASA volunteer.
One thing I know for sure, the kid(s) he’s assigned to are going to think he’s a hero.
I sure do.

That’s so great!
In the kindergarten class I volunteered in last semester, there was a little girl who was in the foster care program. One day, the teacher was asking if everyone could explain something nice they did for someone else, and her reponse was, “I told Sara, who lives with us right now, that the guardian ad litem will help her and be nice to her.”
It broke my heart to listen to her say how much she missed her older sisters and to see her cry when they were no longer allowed to visit her.
Those kids will be amazingly blessed to have Jimmy on their side!

Casa can be a great thing. Good for your husband. And next time I’m in Texas, I won’t come ‘round just to slap Jimmy.
When my son was a foster child, we never met our guardian at litem. He just signed things occasionally.

Very cool! My friend was a guardian ad litem in college. It was good to see the difference he made in those kids’ lives.

That is so awesome!
I wouldn’t have guessed that in the guessing game. Glad there are these organizations and people to help these kids.
