Moving and Music

Things are a little crazy ‘round these here parts.  Jimmy and I are entertaining the thought of moving. And by “entertaining” I mean house hunting, packing boxes and putting our house on the market.

We’re serious entertainers.

So we’ve been working hard fixing things up, moving things out and losing ourselves in the vortex that is online house hunting.

Moving + Summer + Kids = C.R.A.Z.Y

With it being summer and ALL the kids home ALL the time, it’s a wee bit stressful at times.

Take last Friday for instance. I hadn’t gotten much sleep, all the neighborhood kids were over and I was planning a party for 50 the next day. At noon I was beginning to wonder how I would survive the next 5.5 hours without an intervention, an injection of some sort or The Super Nanny.

Then it happened…

The mailman dropped off a package with this inside:

Photo_061209_005

I was so excited. SO. EXCITED. Have I mentioned I love music? Well, I do and apparently Vanessa at EMI is a mindreader when it comes to cd’s I’ve been wanting. And these couldn’t have come on a better day.

Christy Nockels new album is so good. Of course, she has such an incredible voice I think I’d enjoy hearing her sing the dictionary in monotone. I’m happy to report that this album is much more lyrically and musically diverse than that.

The good news for you is that there are 5 Christy Nockels cd’s. That means 1 for me and 4 for you. I’ll be giving them away in the next week or so. Stay tuned.

A Question For You

So how many times have you moved in your life? Or for those with an aversion to math, what is the most interesting place you’ve ever lived?

I’ve moved 11 times in my life and I’d say the most interesting move was when Jimmy and I got married and I was a dorm director in a freshman girls dorm at Baylor while he finished grad school. We lived in an apartment in the dorm for the first 3 months of our marriage, then we moved to the football players apartment complex.

Interesting to say the least.

One of those perfect timing posts… in the process of moving right now too!

I’m right with you on moving… 14 times.  Dad kept us busy when I was young but more than half of that has been in the past 10 years.

Ugh.  I’m ready to get settled.  Back to Nashville in two weeks and I hope to stay there a looong time… like a year or so.  smile I’m kidding!!!!  Much longer for sure.

Good luck on moving, this is where you determine who your true friends are.  smile

I moved 10 times since 2003...the most interesting? or the most crazy? I’d have to say the most crazy was living with my parents for the entire 9 months of my pregnancy with my husband! and the last 2 of those months while he lived 2 hours away...it was crazy times! And the most interesting move was from Ponca City, OK to Visalia, CA with Dale, our 4 month old, a U-Haul with trailer carrying one car and little ol me driving the other car with the kiddo! It made for some interesting video blogs! Check it… http://youtube.com/dcdjmagic

Ok - just added it all up - since I graduated college in August 1996 up till today - I’ve moved 27 times - which includes moves to a city and back to that same city and also moves to different homes/apartments within a city - even if it was for a month.  Whew - I feel exhausted thinking about it - but the good thing is that I’m pretty darn good at packing a car and keeping boxes organized - and throwing away what I really don’t need.

Most interesting place I’ve ever moved to - well - technically I was living in Conn.  with Jen (Robbins smile) but we were working in NYC - can’t believe that was over 10 years ago.

I’ve moved 13 times in my life and have lived in 4 different states. With 8 moves to 3 different states happening while married.

We’ve lived a couple places that are absolutely gorgeous. Driggs, Idaho which has the Grand Tetons as a backdrop surrounded by the Big Hole Mountains. Now we live on Kauai surrounded by the Pacific Ocean.

Pokinatcha...do you know how blessed you are?!?

Kat- I’ve moved 4 times as a kid (that I can remember), and 3 times as an adult. We are in the EXACT same place as you right now. Fixing our house to sell, searching for houses online, and trying to do it around the kids. The biggest move was when I was 18 and moved from PA to Indiana as a nanny to some friends’ kids.  I met my husband at the church we started attending, and the rest is history (or so they say.) I have never lived in a “beautiful” place.  PA was nicer than where I live now (a suburb of Chicago.)
We’re only planning to move a town or two away from our current house (we NEED to live where there is a better school district.) Happy house hunting!

Gabe and I have moved 10 times in 11 years of marriage. As a kid, I moved 5 times.

I love to travel and hope to do a ton of it, but I don’t care to ever move again.

And I’m desperate for one of the CN CDs.

12 I think, not counting decamping to Africa a few times in there.  I HATE moving SO much and am not looking forward to move number 13 next month.

Goodness, you people are crazy! smile I guess I am very fortunate to have only moved 5 times.

It sounds like you have a lot going on. Moving is so stressful, and moving in summertime is even worse.  At least now you have some good music to get you through it!

Just 18!  Which I wouldn’t have said was “just” until I read the other comments!  That includes several stints at my parents house in between moves.  The most crazy...none were absolutely nuts, but the first one of significance was moving out of dorm life into my first real apartment with some great friends.  Great memories there!

Christy Fiiiiike!!!

I love that you commented here. 27 times! That’s serious.

Off to go look at pics from our NYC trip. Let’s not even talk about how long ago THAT was…

I hate moving.  HATE.  I have A LOT of books and books are not fun to move.  Number one reason I want a Sony e-reader.

My parents are moving so I have to help them pack.  My mom has a lot of books, too. Ugh.

Amy,
Curious, why a Sony e-reader and not a Kindle?

Look at that Crowder packaging.  That’s a beautiful CD if I’ve ever seen one.

I think my total is 13. But that’s nothing compared to Christy’s 27. I don’t know whether to cheer her or send money for her counseling bill.

The most interesting move was the one I made with my new husband, from Minneapolis to Phoenix. Talk about two completely opposite climates.

at the risk of further becoming the annoying parents who can’t stop talking about NYC...i’m commenting anyway!

i am somewhat addicted to moving.  i love dreaming about it, wasting time online checking out every single option, then actually doing it.  we stayed planted in our college town for quite a while, but then came a stupid idea that we could not resist.  move to the most expensive city in the US.  with no jobs. in the midst of an economic downturn.  it’s turned out to be the greatest adventure yet.  (except for the part about our house being on the market for a year.  yikes.)

good luck with your moving, kat!  are you staying in the same area?  we’ll be praying that your house sells quickly, easily, and for above the asking price!

Cool mum,
Honestly, I think of you and cool dad every time I mention our reason for moving. I say we’d like more space. (We’re staying in the same town/area)

3 kids, 1 work from home dad, 1 stay at home mom and 1500 square feet.

You’re probably laughing at me right now. Still, by Texas standards, it’s tight living.

But I realize we don’t NEED more space.

I appreciate your prayers!

Shelby,
No, we’re not moving out of Waco. Just trying to find a biggger house so that we’ll have plenty of room for any college students that may want to drop by…

If I tried to count all the places I have lived, I think even scholarly mathmeticians would have their heads explode. Let’s just say, I have moved a lot. My favorite place to live was in North Augusta, SC. Of course, I was living right next to a nice little stream. Oh, to hear the babbling water in the morning as I laid in bed was a dream. However, at night there were nightmares because along with streams in SC come water bugs. We call them roaches in Texas. Those suckers are big and they aren’t afraid of you. You turn on the light and they just look at you and laugh. UGH!!! In Texas you don’t get roaches that you can’t get rid of. In SC, no matter how clean the house, you got those suckers.

Well, I hate moving, only because I value the concept of community so highly, and putting down roots and getting involved in the neighbourhood and stability for the kids etc etc. My parents still live in the same house I was born in so maybe that’s the influence!

I moved house three times at university, and in the last 16 yrs we’ve lived in four houses - two in Liverpool and two in Cairo. These last 6 yrs in Cairo have been the longest we’ve ever lived in one place - I love it!

Most interesting place? It’s a toss-up between Liverpool and Cairo - two of the coolest cities in the world. It’s fun to walk from our house down to the Nile and catch a glimpse of the pyramids through the palm trees, and back home in Liverpool there are a million fantastic things to do every day and some of the best people in the world.

I have lived in the same home for 13 years now.  I hate the move too.

My most interesting place to live: during my Baylor grad school days, I lived on the street in Waco that had the most murders committed on it in 1995.  North Waco represent!

I once hung a deer up in my front yard after a hunting trip at that house.  After that, I never had one problem in that neighborhood.

Kat--mostly because of format issues.  Also, since I do a lot of reviewing and would like to move towards reviewing on an e-reader to save space, it’s the better choice since most pubs won’t be sending kindle books for reviews.

Honestly, though, I’d take either!
