Things That Creep Me Out

My girls have several baby dolls.
I’m often surprised to find these baby dolls in the same places I usually put my 8 month old son.
The baby dolls are usually slumped over, upside down or generally lifeless-looking.
This frequently creeps me out.

With a boy, hopefully we won’t need to get creepy baby dolls for a while. I can handle headless GI Joes much better than lifelike baby dolls all twisted up and stuff.

At least they know to buckle up the dolls. Safety first!
My parents are here right now, and last night we opened presents from them. Lil’E got a Baby Alive doll. For those unfamiliar, this doll talks, eats, and poops. Yes, you have to buy extra food and diapers for her. As if changing a real baby’s diaper isn’t enough at the moment. To top it all off, you have to put the baby to bed (Lil’E would flip out if you just turned it off) - the bedtime routine for Baby Alive includes the “baby” asking for a drink, wanting to read stories and sing songs, and takes an inordinant amount of time. Great. Just great.
Funny thing is, for some reason the Baby Alive doll has always reminded me of this movie. Now, that’s creepy.

Sorry, here is the Baby Alive doll.

Baby Alive: all the responsibility of a baby without any of that pesky interaction, bonding, and love.

A niece got a Baby Alive doll last year and my 9 yr old thought it was too cool....right up until it pooped on her. She wasn’t impressed!

I have never been creeped out by dolls, maybe because we had them everywhere with the 4 girls in a row.
I was a little concerned that they seemed to like to take the heads off though. Black head on a Barbie. Ken head on the black Barbie. And lots of naked Barbies. All are grown, and none are strippers, so I guess the concern was uncalled for. ;>)

Clint, lol!
That just seems weird. I did get this robotic pony thing for my niece this year. I don’t think it’s that high maintenance, though.

First of all, I think it’s interesting that it’s mostly guys who have commented on this post so far. I suppose I would have thought that guys would have steered clear of a post about baby dolls…
Euphrony,
A *doll* that poops? Um, yeah, like I need that. I’ve got enough real people who poop to take care of.
Deemus,
Fortunately, none of my children’s dolls have removable appendages.

Deemus,
I don’t know what doll clothes look like. The moment a new doll enters the house, Lil’E takes the clothes off and they are never seen again. I recently snuggled her into bed, with a naked Snow White, Belle, and Sleeping Beauty right along side. (Dolls, that is. I don’t expose my kids to that kind of role playing.)
Amy,
Tell me you didn’t get that FurReal pony for your niece. Besides the cost (that was very generous of you), this is a nightmare toy for parents because the kids fall in love instantly and whine about it every time they see it in the store. But, I guess that’s what aunts, uncles, and grandparents are for.

Euphrony, if I were you, I would cut off my parents from gift giving until they came to their senses.
I had a look at Baby Alive last week while shopping with the GA’s for our Angel Tree child. Oh, my word.
Kat, that’s the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen. I don’t blame you for being surprised!

Euphrony,
I wish I was that rich! I had to look that up and what I got her isn’t quite that cool. But it has climbed remarkably in price, so I’m guessing I’m thankful I did my shopping in November before everything sold out!

E:
I share the sentiment. I recently cleaned out an old toybox and guess what I found? The bottom was completely lined with various doll clothes. I thought little girls put doll clothes on dolls?
Girls are weird…

I did a double take on the first picture! My boys do this with bright colored stuffed animals so it’s not as creepy!
