The Year of Change

image School isn’t easy. I think we all remember that. Homework, tests and reports. As soon as we master one thing we have to move on to the next.

Change is a constant. New teachers, new classmates, new lessons and new versions of us emerge each May.

You can’t just decide that you like the 4th grade and remain there for the rest of your school years. You’re always moving forward with a goal in mind.

But somewhere between our last year of school and adulthood we’ve forgotten what it’s like to change.

We’ve waded out of the river that carried us forward until we’re sitting on the shore looking around us and behind us. At what others are doing and what we used to be.

We’ve traded in challenge and change for consistency and comfort.

I think my greatest fear is that I would arrive at 45, 55, 65 or 75 and be the same person I am today.

Psalm 18

One of my favorite chapters of the Bible is Psalm 18. David wrote it when the Lord rescued him from Saul. I love verse 35:

35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great.

This verse utterly blows me away. Especially the last part:

You stoop down to make me great.

Wow. The God of Heaven, the Creator of the Earth, the I AM, stoops down to make me great.

He came as a baby. He suffered at the hands of the very people He was trying to save. He hung on a cross.

To make me great. How dare I settle for anything less.

Destined For Greatness

You and I are destined for greatness. Maybe not the kind of greatness that will earn a spot on Letterman or our names on a some big building.

But the kind of greatness that’s earned through love and faithfulness. The kind of greatness that impacts people for generations to come. The kind of greatness that brings reknown to God not to us.

But great things cannot be achieved without change.

The River

image There’s been a river flowing by me for awhile now. I’ve heard it. I’ve seen it. I’ve been looking for a good spot to jump in.

I think I’ve found it.

Wanna come?

Kat~ You continue to inspire me.  “But somewhere between our last year of school and adulthood we’ve forgotten what it’s like to change.” I couldn’t agree more.  I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I have felt like I have reached the “goal,” of being a wife and a mother, but how there’s something inside me that is still longing for growth.  You put it so well, that we were created to grow, to keep learning, to become great with God.

I’m jumping in with you!

Kristin,
You’ve been thinking the same thing too? I’m beginning to think we really are twins…
