The Signs Of Summer

Today I’m going to take the girls shopping for new swimsuits for the summer.

I’ll buy more sunscreen, OFF and popsicle makers. This next week we’ll pull out the inflatable pool and fix up the bubble machine.

These are the signs of summer at our house.

What are the signs of summer at yours?

We’ve already cleaned up the backyard, made it family friendly again. We dust off and bring out all the outside toys (bubbles, chalk, play golf, scooters, hoola hoops, balls) We actually did this a few weeks ago. I love giving the kids the option to play outside. BUT what I think breaks in the summer, is a good barbecue, lighting up the grill and eating outside on our picnic table makes it official.
We are also shopping today for a few more “summer things” which happens to be one of my favorite kinds of shopping-other than Christmas shopping.

Since we have an in-ground pool, I guess one of our main signs of summer would be the cover being off, and the pool being clean and swimmable.

We tried to do that a couple of weeks ago, but the pump went out and had to be replaced. Finally finished that a few days ago, so it should be ready to go by this weekend!

Thanks Kat!!!  I love seeing the girls!!!  Signs of summer at my house are that I shave my legs… is that too gross to post here?  (I’m really living the single life here in Germany, aren’t I?) I also love the smell of sunscreen, so sometimes I wear it even though I know I’m not going in the sun… it just smells like summer and makes me happy.

I wanna come to your house to play, that looks like fun!

Summer for us looks like a continuous cookout.  We literally cook on the grill almost every night as soon as it gets warm.  We usually have company every weekend during the summer, friends we don’t see all winter.  Weird, but that’s how it goes.  We also have a firepit and make s’mores all the time; the girls at the grocery laugh at me when I come in to buy hershey bars, marshmallows and graham crackers every other day!  Lots of teenage boys in our driveway playing basketball and coolers filled with bottled water & gatorade.  Many evenings sitting outside by the butterfly garden with the citronella lanterns hanging near to keep the mosquitoes away, and weekend mornings watching the birds come to our feeders.  Ahh, the feel of summer!  grin

the6stricklands,
Yeah, I love the smell of food on the grill. That’s definitely a sign of the summer. Yum…

C-hammer,
An inground pool...fun. My grandparents had a pool and we just about lived in it during the summer.

Lilia,
That’s hilarious! I love it. Definitely not too gross. But I thought people in Germany don’t shave…

Does it get very warm there in the summer?

Cristy,
S’mores? I want to come to your house!
