“The You Tube Reach” and Mute Buttons for Motorcycles

A couple random thoughts/questions from Kat:
1. Why don’t people edit out “The You Tube Reach?”
You know, when they reach for the off button after they finish recording? For some reason it kinda bugs me.
2. Do Harley’s have mute buttons?
My neighbor just got a Harley! He even paid an extra $95 for the super loud pipes!! I’m so happy!!!
3. An Amazing Cover.
And thanks, Phil, for editing out “The Reach.”
4. Which Harley Camp Are You In?
Harleys: Love or Hate ‘em?
Which camp are you in and why?

HAAAAATE them.
Motorcycles make me so nervous. My dad had one for years and finally got rid of it. He got in a car accident and thought, “Um, if I had been on my motorcycle, this would have been bad...”
My ex-boyfriend had one too. Not a Harley, some kind of suzuki something or other. They’re just too dangerous!

Ambivalent. Yes, they can be extremely dangerous. Yes, they can be relatively safe if the driver is a safe driver. And yes, the motorcyclists can be the most annoying people on the road as they feel liberated to weave in between cars simply because they can fit through a 2-foot wide space.
And as to the YouTube reach - I believe most people are lucky just to be able to get something digital and onto the web. Actually editing it is beyond what many people can/believe they can do.

I don’t mind motorcycles in general, but the loud ones really annoy me. We live on a fairly busy street and I hear them frequently throughout the day. It just makes me shake my head and roll my eyes.
At least my kids are now past napping age. Soooo sorry about the one living next door to you!

I in the “love ‘em” camp. Harley’s aren’t necessarily my favorite motorcycle, but I do love them! I know they can be noisy, but I even really love the sounds. Maybe I’m wierd?
And the Youtube reach? Hilarious! I agree with euphrony, I think it’s difficult for people (including me, sometimes!) to figure out how to edit.

Don’t really care, unless they buy one next door.: )
I keep waiting for the news stories about the sharp rise in deaf Boomers and the Class Action suit against Harley.

While a loud motorcycle may people who live close to the motorcyclist (i.e., you), it could also save the man’s life. There are an amazing number of drivers who just don’t look out for motorcyclists. While it won’t alert those people who drive with the radio turned up or who have ultra-quiet luxury cars, the noise of a motorcycle can alert a driver to one in their blindspot. I know a very safe biker who spent several months in traction and almost died because some lady didn’t look before turning right into him. Hopefully thinking about the potential of the noise to save the guy’s life will make it a little more bearable.

Don’t get me started on noise pollution. And I also don’t understand why so many kids have mini bikes. The parents buy them the bikes and then don’t want them to leave the neighborhood so they drive up and down the street on those noisy things. All these little things add greatly to our stress level you know.

Harley’s are a pretty piece of machinery. Now, if we could just muffle the sound. Sigh, my across the street neighbor has one and has that whole extra “make it loud enough to rattle out the teeth of everyone sleeping in their beds” package. Add the fact that he guns it every time he leaves, WHILE MY CHILDREN ARE SLEEPING!!!! (yes, 6am is not too early to be loud) and I just want to have my husband’s bat have a little conversation with his Harley.

I own 4 motorcycles, so yes, I love them.
However, I am a little nervous now. Last month one of our family friends had his leg severed at the knee while riding. I have not been on one since.
The Harley’s are a little loud for my taste. But I drove one with turbo last year, and OH MY!! The thing was SOOOO fast. Good thing I could not afford the thing.
