The 100 Pushup Challenge: It’s On!!!

Jimmy and I are kind of...um...competitive. Smack talk is our love language.
It’s clear that Jimmy and I are doing well when we’re smack talking one another. Jimmy will tell me I can’t push him over - while he holds one hand behind his back - and balances on one foot - while hopping in circles.
I’ll tell him he’s about to get aquainted with the floor.
But he’s right. I can’t actually push him down. I still try, though, rushing at him with all my might and spunk.
Only to fail.
It’s sad really. Anyway..
The other day I saw a site called The 100 Push up Challenge. It’s a program designed to help you do 100 consecutive push ups by the end of 6 weeks.
I thought it sounded fun so I told Jimmy about it and he said he wanted to do it too.
How cute, I thought. It’ll be a “fun, marriage building activity”. (I may be the first person in history to call attempting to do 100 consecutive push ups a “fun, marriage building activity")
We started by doing the initial test of how many “real” push ups can we can do at one time. I started doing “my pushups” when my sweet Jimmy transformed into the “Push Up Master.”
“You’re chin isn’t touching the ground.”
“You’re arms aren’t bent enough.”
And the final insult:
“You know, you can do the knee push ups if you want to...”
Well…
We both started cracking up and he conceded to let me do my girly push ups as long as I acknowledged that they were, in fact, “girly” push ups.
So, Jimmy and I are going to do The 100 Push Up Challenge and blog about it. Me with my girly push ups and him with his military-style precision perfect manly push ups. We’ll start today and post updates on Fridays.
Want to join us? I know, you were just waiting for me to ask, right?
(You can do girly pushups, knee pushups, wall pushups or just eat 100 consecutive push ups...)

I talked to a woman who owns a gym. I told her, “That’s what I want, arms like yours!” She said, “Push ups. It doesn’t matter what kind you do, but do push ups.” I decided right then to start doing push ups. Start with the wall ones and work my way up to “real” push ups. Well, that was a month ago. So yes, I will check out this challenge! My arms could look amazing at the end of 6 weeks! And think how strong I’ll be!

I’m in!

I’ve been waiting for this my whole life.
lol… no, seriously.
Push-ups are hard-core strength builders, and I do so much better with a goal in sight than just an endless lifetime of exercising.

Ooh, eating push ups? I like that option.
But I have been thinking of adding push ups to my strength training routine (yes, believe it or not, I have one), so I’m going to check that out!

I’m in! I decided to do it yesterday when you posted about it. Should be fun!

I’m too fat for pushups, though I could do a teeter totter type thing on my belly? So my wife tells me to do wall pushups. I have never heard them before a couple weeks ago.
But they ARE working. My arms are doing better. Now if I can get rid of the gut I might be able to do some real ones.

Okay, I’m in… this actually sounds fun. Don’t worry, I do girl pushups too. <G>

so...i get home from a super long weekend, ready to pass out from exhaustion, when my wife asks me, “Hey, did you read Kat’s blog about the 100 Push-Up Challenge? We are SO doing it.”
Next thing I know, I’m on the floor doing girly push-ups and dry heaving. So Kat...thanks for nothin’

Girl pushups!! Are you insane? I could do those all day long. I learned to do those in martial arts. They are as easy as popping candy. I am in it for the big guns and am doing real woman push ups, toes and nose baby!!! I couldn’t do many on my initial test, but that just means my 100 will be much more victorious than my husband who was able to do 25. We are on board!!

Hey Kat, check out the MOPS board. I challenged the women on the board to do this and we have a few takers. We will be doing a weekly check in on our progress.

Yay!! I’m so glad all of you are going to do this. I was pretty sure crickets were going to be chirping here in the comments.
Was I ever wrong.
OurFamilyIsHis - you’ve totally challenged me about my pushups. I don’t know if I can do nose and toes this time around, but I definitely want to 100 real pushups before the end of the year…
Travis - I pretty much just start laughing as soon as I see that you’ve left a comment. It’s not just the avatar either. You Avilas completely crack me up…

I did my initial test on Monday and rocked 20 pushups, which surprised me a little. Yesterday I started day 1. And I gotta tell ya, it was hard. Real hard. But, I am going to try to push (no pun intended. Well maybe now that I think about it) through! I was a little worried starting on level 3, so I might have to go back to level 2 for a little while! Thanks Kat for this program.

Ha ha..."smack talk is our love language”...I love it!
Good luck on the challenge!

Granted, I’m just doing wall pushups, but Week 1 was a breeze. Just started Week 2, and really look forward to it, which is surprising, since I’m so slack about any kind of exercise and always seem to find a zillion excuses to put it off. Now how do I get added to your list of participants?
