Sophanie, Sathish and Grace

(This is my Compassion story. Shaun is inviting people to share their stories, here )

Learn more about sponsoring a child.

Sophanie
This was the final sentence in a letter I got in the mail the other day:

“She is praying that she can see you someday because she is not satisfied when she just finds your letters and your photos. She says that she loves you very much.”

Sophanie is a beautiful 8 year old girl from Haiti. She sends letters to us complete with beautiful drawings and heart wrenching statements like the one above.

Sathish
Sathish is a sweet, sweet 15 year old boy from India who wants to be a doctor. He calls us Uncle and Auntie and draws pictures (from photos I’ve sent) of his “sisters” (that’s what he calls our two daughters) in the letters he writes.

Last year he mentioned that some sponsors were coming to his project and he wondered if we might be able to come. That broke my heart. I felt like the mom who missed the school play. Times 10. Being that I was 8 months pregnant, though, it wasn’t really doable.

Someday, though.

Grace
Grace is our newest addition. She was specially chosen on Saturday by our 3 and 5 year old girls. Yesterday, I heard our three year old yell something from the bathroom. I couldn’t quite understand so I asked her to repeat it. She said, “Mommy! I just pwaid for Gwace!”

They are SO excited to get her information packet in the mail.

It just warms my mommy heart to know that my 3 and 5 year olds are praying for an 8 year old on the other side of the world.

Connections
What I love about Compassion is that it connects people. It connects my little girls with another mother’s little girl. It connects a boy in India and a girl in Haiti with a family in Waco.

And it doesn’t stop with the children. It connects our families as well.

I’m not giving my money to a fund. I’m giving it to three special children.

I’m not giving money out of duty. I’m giving it out of love.

Beautiful story.  I just sponsored my first compassion child this weekend.  I can hardly wait to get her information packet!

Congratulations! It’s been an amazing blessing to our family and I know it will be for you as well.

Kat,

Did you find out what happened to your Mexican boy?

Thanks for asking Amy...I rather fearfully called Compassion first thing Monday morning.

The good news is that he’s fine. He just had decided not to participate in the Compassion project anymore. He’s 13 now and in his last letter he said he had a girlfriend…

I’m going to see if I can send another letter to him to let him know we’ll still be praying for him.
