Some Women Go To The Spa. I Redesign My Blog.
Posted on 01.03.08 in Blogging and there are 24 comments.
I’m allergic to the month of January.
I’m singlehandedly supporting the tissue industry.
If there were a device that harnessed the power of sneezing and snot, I could generate enough power for a small town.
I feel terrible, so I created a new design for my blog. (I’m implementing it right now, so if you see wierdness - hold on - it will all be over in about 30 minutes.)
I feel better now. I like it quite well.
Do you like it? Better, worse or just different? Suggestions welcome.

I like it.
Hope you feel better soon!

I love it! Very cool!

Very nice, Kat. Great job.
But just for the record, I usually read you in my Google Reader, where everything looks pretty much the same. I come to the real thing on occasion, but not typically.
You probably would know the answer to this, since you’re up on stats and stuff—do you have more people who read your feed, or visit your blog directly?

ooh, i love it!!

I’m with Chaotic Hammer in usually reading it thru BlogLines instead of directly (except when commenting). What was the before (screenshot please)?

Good color scheme. I like the change.

Thanks everyone. I’m glad you all like it.
Chaotic Hammer,
Actually, only a small fraction of the folks who read this blog read it via the RSS feed. I’d say only about 15-20%.
I think RSS is still a bit of a mystery to a lot of people. I keep meaning to write a post about it, but....

Oooooh I like it. Its almost like getting a new haircut or something- it always feels good having a new do!

It’s beautiful. I’ve signed up for google reader, but I have to admit, I like reading blogs in the context of their site. Does that make me strange?
Jan 04, 08 at 11:09 am
Yeah it’d be nice to get the “look and feel” of whatever is being RSS’d in the RSS feed reader, but that probably won’t ever happen.
I only use a feed reader because I can’t keep up with all the different sites - you can get the content (i.e. blog posts) updates when they come in… but a lot of people don’t get this, and/or just don’t really care - which is fine.
Honestly, the more you get into blogging and RSS and what-not, the more time-consuming it gets. One would think the reverse but it is usually so NOT the case.

Dang...you’re a design monster!
Jan 04, 08 at 12:11 pm
Looking good, Kat. The word “Secret” should be a little lighter (maybe even white?) because it’s kind of hard to read at first. Oh, and it took me a few minutes to even notice the lettering at the right of the header. I love your tabs at the top! Definitely has a homey feel to it. Kudos for another job well done.

Chris, good points, I know a lot of people says it saves time. But I actually have er, time to kill sometimes, so I guess I haven’t found it necessary yet.

looks really clean… I like it!

I love it!!! I hope you feel better. I was allergic to the month of December. Except I single-handedly supported the cough drop industry.
Miss you. Loya, ‘Lil

It looks so good! I love it! (sorry you don’t feel good though, if you aren’t already taking it, Emergen C helps a lot)
Jan 04, 08 at 09:06 pm
I like the new look. Though I’m a but hurt that you still aren’t linked to me.... I’ll be okay though.

Tressa,
Your new ‘do looks cute!
Amy,
That doesn’t make you strange at all. I’m just to impatient to surf to all the different sites I like to keep up with.
Chris,
I hear you...I have to regularly delete all my feeds in my RSS reader because I just get overwhelmed and spend WAY too much time reading.
Paul J.
I’ll take that as a compliment. Thanks!
Rick,
I was going for the look of a “Classified” stamp on the picture. I’ll work on that…
I did actually intend for the words on the right of the header to be an afterthought - for people not to notice right away...so I guess that worked well.
I appreciate the helpful feedback, Rick!
Amy,
Then, I think an RSS reader would be perfect for you.
Pete,
Thanks Pete! You’re quite the designer, so I’m honored you like it.
Lilia,
You know I changed it for you. I couldn’t stand the fact that you didn’t like the last one as much as the first one, so this design tips it’s hat back to the original. I’m glad you like it! I’m also glad, for you, that it’s January.
Kristin,
Is that a vitamin or a medicine? I can’t really take anything right now because I’m still nursing - which makes getting sick or coming down with allergies even more frustrating…
Brody,
I can’t believe I left my pizza benefactor off my blogroll! Not sure how that happened, but I assure you it was unintended.
I’ve fixed that grave error.
And thanks to your parents, you’re near the top of the list.
Jan 04, 08 at 10:22 pm
Okay, how do I suck up to get to the top of a list?
Jan 04, 08 at 10:33 pm
Change your name to Alvin or 1234.
Jan 05, 08 at 11:38 am
looks good Kat, you are indeed a techie!
Jan 05, 08 at 02:51 pm
My husband says I am addicted to the computer. I even bought a kitchen timer to remind myself to get off. However, now I just pop in the chair for a minute or 2 at a time, so as to not have to set the timer.
I love reading your blog and check it every few days. My cousin and I also started another blog in attempts to read the Bible this year. Really read it.....

I don’t get RSS or SLR(camera lingo) and I am purposely not trying to learn......
Jan 06, 08 at 08:20 pm
Nice work, Kat! I think it’s easier on the eyes and more cheerful.
