Running And Garage Sales

Last Saturday I went on a walk with my kids and we happened upon a garage sale.
I love garage sales. My grandma was a garage sale strategist. Every Saturday we’d go garage saling (sp?) at the crack of dawn to search for great toy bargains. She supplied Christmas gifts every year for an orphanage in Mexico and spent 11 months searching for new toys at low prices. When Christmas came around, her dining room was filled with toys and charts that helped her to select the right gifts for each child. We’d help her wrap them, pack them and ship them.
Garage sales hold sweet memories for me.
As we neared the garage sale, I saw two items that made me tell my kids to pick up the pace and angle our approach so as to cut off any would be interceptors.
Below a halo of light and with a chorus of hallelujahs playing gently in the background, I beheld a glorious sight.
A jogging stroller. A double jogging stroller. And a Little Tikes push car.
I’ve been wanting a jogging stroller for awhile but they’re ridiculously expensive and the double ones are downright outrageous.
But I’m proud to say that I bought the double jogging stroller AND the Little Tikes car for $20.
Later that day I went for my first run in about 10 months and it was awesome. I got a serious workout trying to run while pushing 60lbs of offspring and answering 234,124 questions as we meandered through the neighborhood.
Do you go to garage sales? What’s your greatest garage sale find?

What an awesome thing your grandma did, and to involve you in it too!
I love garage sailing too. Just Sat. I went out in search for a plastic picnic table with the benches attached, and found it at the first one I stopped at. I didn’t have the 15 dollars they were asking, (which is over priced anyways) and held out the change I had in my car. They accepted, and now my kids have already enjoyed several meals on the little table!
A double jogging stroller, sounds wonderful, I think i’ll have to go out hunting next weekend for one....

My jogging stroller was 20$ at a garage sale, too. Congratulations.

Kristin,
Wow. You found what you were looking for at the first garage sale you stopped at? That’s great!
My girls love eating outside.
Yes, my grandma was awesome.
Stephanie,
Thanks! I’ve really enjoyed it so far.

Jogging strollers are neat. Always wanted one when the boys were little. Never got one.
Now they are 9 and 6. I just make them run with me.

Steven,
That’s cool that you run with your boys.
I really look forward to going running with my kids. My 4 year old will jog around the block with me and I love it.

Congrats! I love to go garage saling and bargain hunting in general, but I haven’t done it for a while. It’s a great place to get books, usually though. You can often find books for ten or twenty five cents.

You hit the jackpot, girl! Garage sales around here include tractor parts and hunting magazines, so I don’t bother. AND I don’t need anymore stuff.

Wow! What a bargain...jogging strollers are expensive!
I haven’t been to a garage sale in a couple years...just because I have more than enough stuff in my attic.
Besides, I think you have to go early and on the weekends I try to sleep a little longer since my little one doesn’t sleep through the night yet.

Amy H.,
The crazy thing is that I got these bargains at about 10am - that’s pretty late in the garage sale world.

Amy,
Yes, garage sales are a great place to get books. I remember as a little girl buying lots of Nancy Drew books at garage sales.
Truevyne,
Tractor parts?
I don’t really need more stuff either. I “try” to get rid of stuff whenever I buy new stuff so that I don’t actually add to my stuff...I just change my stuff.

You definitely scored on the running stroller! That will be one of the things Erin and I register for when the time comes for us to be registering for those kind of things…
