Reason #1 Why I’ll Never Be Invited To Join The Junior League

image As my kids and I were running errands yesterday, we were sitting at a stoplight in our minivan when a guy pulled up next to us with his music blaring.

I wasn’t thrilled about the lyrics that were spewing from his radio so I did what any good mom would do.

I rolled down the windows and cranked up our music and we all sang at the top of our lungs.

Ok. I sang at the top of my lungs.

Yeah. The minivan was bringing da bass.

And the chorus of “The Choo Choo Song”?

Totally slammin’.

(I have the distinct feeling that I’m going to embarrass my kids when they’re in Junior High.)

....Maybe sooner.

What are you listening to in your car?

we have become an ipod family after my son(3) told me he wanted to come to ladies night after hearing a commercial on the radio. and they can both quote that nauseating ovaltine commercial. we listen to some veggie tales and some chris tomlin. perhaps we should get some shaun groves on our play list wink

do you know dr. hook? my kids totally dig sylvia’s mother

You really did make me laugh out loud this morning! And yes, our job is to embarrass our kids by the time they’re in junior high - it is part of the emotional maturation process in which they must be ready to flee, er, I mean leave the nest when they are 18. grin

Right now...because of my two kids...I am currently blasting the soundtrack of High School Musical 2.

Yep. I’m hip.

And when that isn’t on, they usually make me turn the dial to Radio Disney.

(doffing my hat) Ma’am, I salute your motherly actions.  Sing away.

that is so what I do!  well, not the choo choo song, but i do compete with my neighboring car....

I usually listen to the radio, constantly flicking back and forth between stations hoping they’ll play a song I like.

Lately, it goes something like this:

When I get into the car, I turn off the radio, because my wife apparently listens to music on the radio when she drives to and from work (I work at home). And after turning off the radio, then I beatbox, or sing silly songs about my cats. (Seriously).

My wife hints subtly that I should stop, by turning the radio back on. I immediately turn the radio back off, and say I’m sorry, and promise that I’ll stop the beatboxing and goofy singing.

No more than 30 seconds later, I’m doing it again. It’s a habit. My wife threatens to turn the radio on again.

So we try talking instead, and lately that’s been better than music or radio or whatever.

NOT the choo choo song. I listen to CD’s my husband has made for us.  Lotsa different worship styles and artists. I run to alot of David Crowder on my ipod.  What do you run to, Kat?

You are funny.  As I type this I am about to run out the door after grabbing my Billy Ray Cyrus CD (the one with the song he wrote for Hannah Montana...I mean Miley Cyrus...I mean...oh, you know the girl!) and that REALLY embarrasses my high school daughter!

However my middle school son is impressed that a Dad can, ummmm, have such nice hair.  Really...he wants to look like Billy Ray Cyrus when he’s a Dad.  That makes me laugh when I think of it.

I like the title of this entry...has me thinking of something new to blog about...haha!

Kat,

I asked for woofers ( you know the big bass speakers I don’t know how to properly spell) for the mini van for Christmas.  Didn’t get em :-(
We are about to ipod the mini van.
In third place right now is:
World Mandate:  worship recorded from our churches yearly conference.
Second Runner up:  Trout fishing in America.
I’ve intened to blog about them.  They take every day funny family expieriences and make funny story songs about them that kids and parents alike enjoy.  It’s folk style mostly.  Our fav. is My hair had a party last night… & alien in my nose…
And the Winner is:  Toby Mac almost exclusively.  The kids are constantly telling me, “turn it down, it’s way to loud!”

I forgot to say, “nice new pic” goes good with the gray and your theme…

I enjoy Trout Fishing in America.  I really love the size difference of the two guys (for those who don’t know, look up a pic of them).  Have you heard how they wrote “Alien in my Nose”?  They were talking to a class of 5th graders and got the kids to through out themes and phrases, and put those together into the song.

Euphrony,
There’s the link.  Those are two funny dudes.  Having a 5th grade boy… I can see how that happened.  I tell him every day children can change the world.  Now as I tell him goodnight I have proof.
I’m indebted to that group, they took us from lullabies to good folk music ( no choo choo for us ).  I ‘m not a good preschool mama I guess.

Mandy,
Thanks!

jameejb,
Our minivan doesn’t have a tape deck so my cassette adapter dor my ipod doesn’t work and I haven’t invested in an fm transmitter yet. So we’re stuck with the choo choo song. They do like Amy Grant and Andrea Bocelli, though. Can’t complain about that.

I’m not familiar with dr. hook…

Jim,
Maybe I should tone it down a bit then, I’m not ready for my babies to leave me. My oldest starts Kindergarten tomorrow...sniff sniff

Steven,
I totally want to see High School Musical 1 and 2. Have I mentioned my thing for teeny bopper movies/shows?

Euphrony,
Thank you kindly sir Euphrony, of the Houston Euphronies.

Amy,
Glad to know I won’t be the only one not invited to join the Junior League.

C-Hammer,
Silly songs about your cats? Perhaps you would enjoy this site

truevyne,
Well, it depends on my mood. If I’m in a running mood and I don’t need motivation, I like to listen to bethany dillon, andrew osenga, kendall payne or other artists that make me think. If I need motivation I just play It’s On by Superchick over and over. If I’m sleepy I play Come Awake by David Crowder.

Lately, though, I haven’t been listening to music when I run. The half marathon that I’m doing, doesn’t allow music devices, so I’m trying to get used to running without music.

becca,
I’ve been listening to that song..."I Have To Believe” on the last WM cd. I love that song!

Marianne,
Hmm....Billy Ray Cyrus and good hair. I guess he doesn’t have the tail thing that he had way back when? Ah, I just googled and yes, he does have good hair. Kind of Keith Urban-y.

Seuss,
Have you listened to Group1Crew? If you like TobyMac, I think you’d like them.

that would be awesome to see, or hear I guess, so funny.

“The Fray” has been stuck in my cd player in my car for about a month now.
