I’ve mentioned the Mac program Quicksilver a lot lately and today I ran across a podcast featuring Merlin Mann of 43folders.com “fame.” Merlin gives a great intro to Quicksilver for all of you who might be interested. Click here to check it out.

I’m a long time reader and first time post-er. Yeah for me. I know that Mac users are the coolest but what about us old fashioned folks? Please share your non-Mac cool stuff too!

Sam,
“non-Mac cool stuff” - I’m afraid that’s an oxymoron.
Just kidding. I’ll post some fun pc and web apps this afternoon.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment! Welcome.

Sam,
Just wanted to let you know I posted an entry about some non-mac goodies.

Yeah Kat, you may or may not have noticed that I never take part in the Mac discussions here or on Five Cent Stand or wherever.
It’s not that I don’t like Macs. For graphics people, musician types, video people, and many home users, there’s really nothing better. I’ve been particularly impressed ever since OS X burst onto the scene, because frankly I was extremely underwhelmed with earlier versions of MacOS (I had to do tech support on them, and they were nothing to be impressed with).
It’s just that for my purposes, I don’t have a Mac and don’t have need of one. I work for a software company that writes Windows-based applications. I have been a Unix geek for many years, and build server farms and do fancy-schmancy networking things.
I’ve seen the “religious wars” between various OS advocates, and they’re frankly quite silly, pretty much on a par with the “Metallica sucks!”, “No, Metallica rulez!” type dialogue.
Because I’ve worked with pretty much every hardware and OS platform, I know which tools are best for doing which jobs, and I don’t limit myself (or others).
So anyway, I’m not trying to make a fuss or anything, just kinda letting you know why I don’t get to participate in certain subjects that you like to write blog entries about.

I hear ya Hammer. It’s all good. I just like to feed the fire. It’s IS silly....and fun.
PC’s are cool. I do actually have one.
I’ve been a Mac user for less than a year now, so I’m having fun being an overzealous newbie. Being a visual person, a web designer and a mom who loves to create photo, video and audio memories for my kids, my iBook has been just awesome.
Also, this program, Quicksilver, is what really sets Macs apart, in my eyes. If Windows had something similar, I wouldn’t be as impressed with my iBook. But being an unorganized person who desperately wants to be organized, the Mac programs (Quicksilver, spotlight and the simple AND fast search functionality that is built into almost every program) make me feel organized.
So I love it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do enjoy reading your comments - you’re always so level headed. Feel free to make a fuss, though.
Perhaps the next time I write a Mac post, you should write a nice diatribe about Macs. I’m sure Macheads would come out of the woodwork. It might be fun...like poking at ant piles.

ROFL
But you know, Kat, on the internet that activity has a name. It’s called “trolling”.
Are you asking me to troll the comments on your blog?
