Pictures Of My Kids: My Solution

I finally figured out how I want to post pictures of my kids. I wasn’t comfortable just posting them right on the blog, so I’ve decided to embed them into the post and only make them viewable to people who register and log in. Anyone who reads this blog is welcome to register.

By setting it up like this, I feel more comfortable that my kids pictures aren’t going to be crawled by Google or show up in random image searches, but they’ll still be easily viewable by all my friends and family.

I’ve embedded a picture of The Small Person in this post. It’s from the snow day we had here a couple months ago.

So go ahead and register, it only takes a second. Then you can see pics of my kids and tell me how cute they are.

It normally gets cold enough for coats (we spend a couple weeks with highs in the 30’s and 40’s), but it rarely snows, although it’s done it twice in the last 5 years!

One odd thing about being registered here: when I come in to the main page, the top notice tells me to register or login and no pictures are seen (just the register notice).  However, without doing anything but clicking on the permalink or the comment link (ie I do not try to login) I arrive at the comment page with a big “Welcome Euphrony” instead of the Register/Login notice and pictures are visible.  In short, on the frontpage I am not auto-logged in, but I am on post pages.

I think I figured it out (had to do with cookies), let me know if you still encounter the issue.

I suspected cookies at first, but the program that I use to block ads, cookies, javascript, background sounds, and the boogie man is set to allow cookies from your site.  When I turned it off, though, the auto-login on the front page went fine.  It seems that the program is reading the login as related to ads - so I have now allowed ads from your site as well, and all is fine.

Just please don’t start putting in banners for thigh-master or something.  Please!

just curious why are the pics of the baby boy allowed on the website?

I think you’ve reached an excellent compromise with this approach, balancing privacy and safety with the desire to share pictures of your kiddos with your family and friends.

And yes, what a cutie she is, indeed.

Well, I figure newborns/babies generally look somewhat the same so I felt more comfortable posting his pictures, but now that I have this solution, his pics will probably go “behind the curtain” as well.
