Parent’s University: Week 2 Topic

Sorry I’m a bit late in letting you know the topic for this week...I’ve been busy...parenting.

So, the topic is faith…

How do you teach your children about God? What are some things you do or would like to do? How do you incorporate your faith into your child’s daily life?

I was really challenged by many of your posts last week. I really look forward to what everyone has to say this Thursday.

See you then!

Kat,
We’ve had lots of success incorporating big, abstract, and spiritual concepts into our everyday conversations--especially discipline.  We’ve have been amazed at how sophisticated our 2 and 3 year old daughters can be.

Just yesterday, the oldest whined because her sister claimed a toy that wasn’t hers.  “She says it’s hers, but it’s not!” she cried.  Well, the 3 year old was right (as she usually is), but I turned her to Jesus’ words about truth--you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.  “You know the truth about what belongs to you, so you need not be anxious about what she says.  Disregard what she says and focus on the truth.  The truth sets you free.” All day we repeated, “The truth will set me free.” Several times we stopped to ask, “What’s the truth about this situation?” Not exactly a perfect exegesis of the verse, but it was good enough to get started.  I just love resolving conflicts with the BIG idea.--We’ve moving toward, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” but for now it’s preschool steps.

cksummers,
That’s good. We encounter many of those confrontations with our 3 and 5 year old. I’ll be using that tomorrow.
