Parent’s University: How to Find Personal Time

Welcome to Parent’s University!

This Week’s Topic: FINDING PERSONAL TIME

hourglass.jpg Am I the only parent mourning the loss of personal time?

I’m now down to about 9 hours of “personal time” each day. That includes luxuries like sleeping, showering and spending time with my husband.

I’ve decided that sleep is for the weak.

(In other news, I’ve been really grumpy lately. Not sure why.)

What Do You Do?

Frankly, I need your advice, and I imagine others do too.

How do you find time to “getaway”, do datenights with your spouse or just find a minute to collect your thoughts?

How It Works

1. Write a post with a tip on how to find time to relax, refresh and recharge.

2. Then submit a link to that post (not your main blog page) in the box below.

Soon we will have a nice collection of ideas, tips and suggestions on how parents can find time to relax, refresh and recharge.

I have to agree with Lisa H on this one.  My kids are 16 & 17 and STILL have a bedtime of 10pm on school nights and 11pm on Saturday (church) nights.  (Friday nights are free, they can stay up all night if they want to...this is when friends sleep over.) Bedtime was 8pm in elementary school, 9pm in junior high and 10pm in high school, same as it was for me growing up.

They don’t have to go to sleep, but they have to be in bed because WE need the personal time.  They know this and respect it.  They will read or listen to music until they go to sleep.  (No TV/computers in their bedrooms.)

Of course, since they ARE 16 & 17, we don’t have to hire babysitters for date nights, we just go out.  Come to think of it...we get more personal time than I like these days, because the kids are always on the go.
