Parents University: Discipline

Hi and welcome to Parent’s University!

Here’s how this works. Write a post on the topic of discipline - it can be a simple tip, long story or anything else that you think other parents will find useful . Then submit (in the comments or via email) a link to your post along with the title or a one sentence description of the entry.

I will then post those links here and soon, we will have a nice collection of ideas, tips and suggestions on discipline.

*Please do send a link to that specific post and not just your blog in general so that people will still be able to easily access your entry in days and weeks to come.

The entries:

2. Lisa H

3. Jameejb

5. TrueVyne

(FYI - I now have two sick kiddos, so I’ll try to update this post as often as I can, but I might not be able to post all the entries until tonight...thanks for your patience.)

Thanks for sharing Lisa! Great post - I have three kids too, and it’s been a challenge to be as consistent as I’d like to be.

Along the lines of Kat’s repetition technique, I’ve had some success with “do overs” for my 2 and 3 year olds.  When they have made a “poor choice,” I occasionally have them repeat the action properly several times.  I think it helps them build a habit of “better choices.” As my kids love imaginative, pretend games, this technique can also be good with a theatrical twist.  Sometimes I get to make poor choices, and my girls get to be mommy!

The bottom line in regards to discipline is that I try to refrain from my urge to scream and awaken to the moment for teaching.  If I do, we gain moderate successes.

Crystal,
Oh, those are good ideas. I think my girls would especially like the reverse role play. They LOVE to pretend to be mommies.

Kat,
I hope your kids are feeling better soon.  Two of mine are on antibiotics right now too.

I love these posts, and am going to read into them further.
