Palms for the Poor. Get A FREE PDA.

Yesterday was Earth Day.

Today, I’m declaring it People Day.

Instead of hugging a tree, hug a person. Instead of saving a tree let’s save a life.

It’s easy.

And to give our inner altruism a little nudge, I’m giving away my Palm Zire 72 PDA (It has a camera and video built in. Read on for the details.)

Haiti and the Ivey Family
Aaron Ivey (from the band Spur 58) and his wife Jamie are going to Haiti very soon.

I’ve been reading Aaron and Jamie’s blogs for awhile now and I really respect them both. They have a passion for those in need and unlike me, they’re really, really, REALLY doing something about it.

They are going to visit the two children they are adopting and they’re also trying to stock up on as many of the needs that have been voiced by the Livesay family who run a mission serving hundreds of Haitians.

Here are some of their needs.  They are in the early stages of having the clinic open and of course there are basic needs for them there.

tubes of Hydrocortisone ointment, 1% or 2.5%
tubes of anti-fungal creams/ointments (for example, Clotrimazole/Lotrimin, Miconazole, etc)
Silvadene burn cream (the generic name is silver sulfadiazine)
Infant gas relief drops (Mylicon or the generic version, Simethicone)
Saline nasal spray for infants/children
Adaptec burn dressings

We are also taking $$$$ to buy food for the Haiti organizations (orphanages, etc) and people around them.  We don’t want to just hand out money to people so we’re going to be buying food in the market and then deliver it.  How cool is that!!!  So, If everyone I know gave us $5 we could buy lots of food.  You in?  We’ll be taking YOUR cash down there and giving something that will help them and their family SURVIVE.

How Can I Help?

So, here’s how you can help and get a chance to win the PDA.

1. Donate to the Ivey’s Haiti Fund. CLICK HERE to Donate via PayPal - I’m suggesting $5, but any amount is great.

What’s This About A FREE PDA?
Everyone who donates will be entered into the drawing for my Palm Zire PDA.

It takes pictures, records and plays video, plays mp3s, has all the palm organization/calendar/todo stuff and it’s the sleek, silver limited version of the Zire 72.

I really love, but I really don’t need it at this stage of my life.

I’m also including a cool silver hard case, a wireless keyboard and all related software. It will work with a PC or a Mac.

So, skip that latte, help some people in Haiti and get a cool PDA.

(we’ll select a winner at random by next week.)

A friend went to Haiti a few years ago and told me about the “dirt cookies.” I’m using the story to help teach my son about empathy and gratitude. I wish I could have donated more. God bless people like Aaron and Jamie who don’t just talk the talk. Godspeed for your journey.

I started to do it just for the chance and then finished the donation for the chance to help. Thanks for taking a stand.

Melanie, Kari and Gwen,
Isn’t it incredible to know that what you just did will put a smile (just like that boy’s smile) on the face of someone thousands of miles away?

You are awesome!
