My Husband Is Officially An Adult Now

image That’s right Jimmy is now a coffee drinker.

It started a few weeks ago after a particularly sleepless night with our new son. Jimmy wandered into the kitchen and asked me where the coffee maker was. After finding it and blowing off the dust we stared at it for several minutes trying to figure out how the contraption worked. We finally figured it out and he’s been a happy, peppy hubby and daddy ever since.

It seems so grown up to watch my husband walk to his office in the morning with a cup of coffee…

I love the way coffee smells, but I really don’t like the way it tastes. Is that weird? If I drink coffee it needs to be drowned in flavored cream, sugar and preferably ice cream of some sort.

So, what about you? Are you a coffee drinker?

I am a coffee drinker and have been for many years.  My husband has never been a coffee drinker...until last November.  Somehow, while he was in New Orleans for a week, he got hooked on coffee.  He came home on a Saturday morning very early and I put the coffee on...and right after I poured myself a cup, he poured HIMSELF a cup!  What?  Thinking he was just very sleepy and didn’t realize he was pouring a cup of COFFEE, I said, “What are you doing?” He said, “OH!  While I was away, I found out I like coffee.  Alot.” So now my husband is officially an adult, too! : )

I am NOT a coffee drinker.  I do not like the taste or the smell, and neither does Mrs. E.  But I still consider myself an adult, since I frequently drink hot tea.

I LOVE coffee.  When I was pregnant, it made me sick, so I thought for sure I’d lost coffee forever (what a sad thought).  But I was wrong - the newborn sleeplessness reunited us.  I like it so much that I’ll even drink decaf in the evenings ... which I’m pretty sure just makes me odd, but I’m okay with that.

No, but I’m a die-hard hot chocolate lover

I drink coffee with my milk, quite frequently. I never used to...until college haha.

Cristy,
That’s very interesting. Was it a special coffee he drank while in New Orleans or just a random reintroduction to coffee?

Euphrony,
Drinking tea doesn’t make you an adult - it makes you English.
wink

Michelle,
Oohh...me too. I LOVE hot chocolate.

Bekah,
I drank coffee sometimes while in college and pulling an all nighter, but I think the nasty taste kept me awake more than the caffiene. Of course, I wasn’t drinking a starbucks latte during those cram sessions. I’d go to IHOP and order a pot of black coffee - perhaps that’s why I still don’t like coffee…

I like coffee, but I don’t generally prefer hot drinks.  They make me feel...hot.  So I like them in winter, but that’s about it.

whoa...my word says nearly27 and I am!  Next week.

He had, and I quote, “the best coffee in the world” while he was in New Orleans at the Cafe du Monde.  One of the guys told him he should try it, so he did.  Then, he had a very difficult time getting to sleep that night!

Since he was on a mission trip, there were about 40 snoring guys (and sqeaky cots) in one room, so when he awoke tired the next morning....he decided to have coffee.  And so on, and so on...until he was hooked!

No caffeine for me, so no to coffee.  The only way I ever liked to drink it was with sugar and milk anyway, and by that point it’s more of a dessert than a morning beverage.  So it doesn’t exactly jive with the weight loss plans.

I do like the smell of it, though.

I have one cup every morning of the weekday, but not on the weekends.  I usually will start a cup during the morning break at church, but I rarely finish it.  I like the smell and flavor, and actually learned how to drink it black, but prefer it with sugar and cream (although the cream is not necessary).

Since I am new to coffee, what is the best kind to buy and what do you think is the best way to prepare it?  So far I have been putting in milk and sugar but is there any kind that you think tastes good by itself?

They say Folgers in your cup is the best part of waking up, but I don’t know.

Cach - I saw the new hair-do and think you look smashing.

My wife just grew up a few months ago out the blue.  It seemed very odd and disturbing to me that she suddenly loves it having hated it with a passion for 33 years prior.

I guess I’m still a kid then, I can tolerate the smell after years of working next to the coffee machine at my previous job, but the taste reminds me of a dirty ash tray (and no, I don’t know how I’d know that taste either!).

The worst part of this all is that she consistently tries to convert me now- she keeps saying, oh this flavor is so delicious just try it.  And I’m having to subject myself to the ashtray flavor of just about every brand she buys!

Coffee actually CAN be a part of a weight loss program if you consider it a laxative…

Jimmy:  Folgers is pretty gross, in my opinion.  Definitely go with Starbucks.  House and Breakfast blends are tasty.  Breakfast blend is a little more mild, and really good in the morning.  You can get it ground at any grocery store now.

I like drinking mine with Coffeemate creamer, Cinammon Vanilla Creme flavor.  (There’s lots of flavors.  At the grocery store near the milk.) And Splenda.  To avoid lots of sugar.

I can’t drink mine black, but if you want to try, you should check out the flavored coffees.  Hazelnut is good.

Coffee rocks.

Thanks Fancy - that is good info.  Basically, the more I can get it to taste like hot chocolate the better.

I don’t like it black, I use one packet of splenda or equal and a splash (or two) of milk, more to cool it down than to taste.  (sensitive teeth.)

My hubby is partial to flavored coffee, or flavored creamer.  So far, he likes caramel truffle flavored coffee (I like it too) or hazelnut creamer.  He’s tried others and liked them, but those are the flavors he’s asked me to purchase at the grocery so far.

Hey Jimmy, I worked at Starbucks last year, and I’m with fancypants - Folgers is pretty bad.  Starbucks is good (of course, I’m biased) but some local coffee shops buy from local roasters, and those can be really good too.  Lately my husband and I have been enjoying Sulawesi from Starbucks, so I’d recommend that one as well.
