Music Monday: Two Songs That Move Me

Well, what would the first installment of Music Monday be without a song by…
wait for it…
wait for it…
Yes, Brooke Fraser.
I know.. I know…
I’ve subjected my husband and children to 25+ hours of Brooke Fraser (she only has 2 albums...) and I’ve posted about her music here, here and here. But, seriously, it’s just so good.
I’ve been looking for an opportunity to post this performance of her song Albertine, which is a song she wrote for an orphan girl she met on a life changing trip to Rwanda.
What strikes me about the video, recorded at the New Zealand Music Awards, is the passion with which she sings the song, especially at about the 3 minute mark.
I love the line:
“Now that I have seen, I am responsible”
Mmmmm. Good stuff.
Sara Groves - When The Saints
Another song that has made friends with the repeat button is Sara Groves song “When The Saints.”
(There isn’t an official video of the song, so this is a video made by an orphanage.)
I see the long quiet walk along the Underground Railroad
I see the slave awakening to the value of her soulI see the young missionary and the angry spear
I see his family returning with no trace of fearI see the long hard shadows of Calcutta nights
I see the sisters standing by the dying man’s sideI see the young girl huddled on the brothel floor
I see the man with a passion come and kicking down the doorI see the man of sorrows and his long troubled road
I see the world on his shoulders and my easy loadAnd when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them
and when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them
I want to be one of them
I want to be one of them
I want to be one of them
What a powerful song…
I blogged a bit more about it here.
In Conclusion...
Well, that’s it for my first recommendations for Music Monday.
I promise to branch out next week…

I love that Sara Groves song! Several of the songs on that cd are repeats for me, that being one of them. I’m working on my post.
