Maybe It’s Important to be Imperfect

It’s nap time right now.
All is right with the world.
Yes, it has been one of those days.
One of those days when I really wonder if God read my resume right and had the right girl in mind when He decided to entrust two (soon to be three) of His precious children to me.
One of those days when The Smaller Person spent more time in time out than out of it.
One of those days when my default, knee jerk answer to every question is, “No.”
One of those days when the idea of having a secluded office with a door that closes and being able to come home happy and eager to see my kids sounds glorious.
One of those days when I’m sure I’m probably scarring them for life.
But I’ve been thinking lately (well, the past 5 minutes anyway) that maybe it’s good that my kids see me when I’m not so perfect. Maybe it’s good for them to see that I get frustrated so they can see how to deal with it. Maybe it’s important for them to see me upset so that they can see how I calm down. Maybe it’s good for them to see my emotion so that they can learn to respond to it. Maybe it’s important for them to see my imperfection so that they can recognize God’s complete perfection.
I want them to see me need God. I want them to see me pray when I’m frustrated or upset. I want them to hear me apologize when my response wasn’t right. I want them to learn that I love deeply them in the midst of it all.
(Tangent: I wonder if knowing “The Importance of Imperfection” could be applicable to the Church as well. Thoughts?)

Another great topic Kat, we had one of those days a week or two ago, where Michelle (my wife) and I both were emotionally spent, and gave the kids a not-so-fun rollercoaster ride of emotions as we expressed we could not handle any more bad behavior. They were all in bed by 6:30 that night and probably wondering what they will wake up to!
But your tangent is an even better topic- I do think you hit something that could address the disconnect between the current church structure and what the media finds when they pry enough. Wouldn’t it just be better to upfront about our faults and issues in that context, and our therefore need for Jesus every day of our lives, and set the example for others?

Nap time is golden. My four year old is one who grew out of them too soon for my liking.
