Life Lessons from a Half Marathon - Pt. 1

Kristin asked me what I think about when I run…
Sometimes I think about nothing. Sometimes I listen to music.
Sometimes I just say to myself, “One more step, one more step.”
But there are days when running is a really wonderful time of meeting with God. This past Saturday was one of those days.
I learned a lot during the half marathon. Here is the first of three things I learned:
We Must Run Our Own Race
There was one singular reason I met my goal for the half marathon - I ran my own race.
When the gun went off, people were passing me left and right. Most of them were Baylor students who were 14 years, 3 kids, 2 labors and 1 c-section younger than me. I’m sure I looked like quite the old lady.
My competitive self didn’t like that, but I knew the pace I needed to run in order to have a chance at making it through the hills and I stuck to it.
I ran even when it seemed that everyone else around me was getting ahead. And in the end, I achieved my goal and even passed all the people who had started out too fast.
In life, we need to run our own race when it comes to just about everything - spirituality, finances, health, career, family...etc.

I really enjoyed your post. More women should stop trying to be what everyone thinks they should be and just be themselves! God made us all special. The sooner we realize that, the sooner we can step into our destiny!
