Mother Daughter Kentucky Trip

Two weekends ago I took my youngest daughter to visit my sister and brother in law in Kentucky.
We have a tradition in our house that when someone turns 5, they get to go on a special Mother/Daughter (or Father/Son) trip. I took my oldest to LA two years ago and this year my youngest daughter turned 5; she wanted to visit her super cool Aunt and Uncle in the Blue Grass State.
Here are some of my favorite pics from the trip.
This pic says it all. My oldest is hamming it up for the camera. Clearly, my son isn’t about to let me go. And my little travel buddy is saying, “SEEEE-YA!”
When I took this picture, I said “Turn your head to the left. A little more. A little more...” “MOMMY! I’m just looking at wood!”
Here, Aunt Diana and my girl are enjoying a nice fake nap. It’s a cute pic, though!
Aunt D was intent on spoiling her little niece and my girl LOVED every minute of it.
Uncle John took us to see some really incredible horses and even a CASTLE!
We painted pottery with some youth group girls from Diana’s church. Nothing is cooler to a 5 year old than to hang out with 6th and 8th graders.
And what Mother/Daughter/Aunt trip is complete without playing Eye of the Tiger?
On the final flight on our trip, this sweet flight attendant welcomed my daughter and her pink bear over the plane intercom! And as we were getting off the plane she called after us and gave my daughter some wings and told her they were from the Captain. My girl was BEAMING!

It was such a fun trip that I hope she remembers for years to come.
Have you taken any trips yet this summer?

What a great tradition! I think I’m going to steal...umm...borrow it.

I love that tradition, too! What a fun trip!
My husband and I went to SeaWorld in Orlando at the end of May, and we had an amazing time!

How fun! Help me to remember that kids don’t need huge vacations to have fun. Here a trip to Kentucky of all places was just what your daughter wanted!
Our summer travel has centered around family, too.
We’ve taken one trip to visit my parents in Indiana. This weekend, we’re heading to Nashville for a day and picking up my sister who is visiting from Hong Kong for the week. It’s been a year and a half since we saw her.
In August, we’ll head back to Indiana to see my brother and his new family (wife and 3 children I’ve never met!) who are coming in from Seattle.

Joyce,
Steal (um...borrow) away!
Erin,
Sea World! Fun!
We took our two girls a couple years ago (to the one in San Antonio). My son is old enough now to enjoy it so I can’t wait to take all three of them…
Sarah,
I agree. I think kids care more about the 1 on 1 time than the destination. Everything is new and exciting to them.
My daughter LOVED Kentucky. And, honestly, I did too. It’s gorgeous and we both loved seeing all the horses.
We’ve taken our girls on 1 on 1 weekend trips just down to Austin and they loved those trips too.
I think the key is the 1 on 1 time. It reminds them that they are super special.

What fun! I love your traditions and this is a great one.
We just got back from a trip...camping with our church in Arkansas. For the most part we take our trips anytime except for the summer.

Lisa,
That sounds like fun. I love Arkansas. We often take little family trips to Hot Springs.
