Just What I’ve Always Wanted

So during the Thanksgiving holiday one of my aunts was taking pictures of all the family based on the month of their birth. My cousin, her son, is making a family calendar for everyone for Christmas and each month will feature a picture of everyone who has a birthday that month.

After they took my picture, I heard her talking with my uncle about how there aren’t any family birthdays in April. A second later she looked at me and said, “The baby is due in April, right? Why don’t we take a picture of Kat’s belly and put it on the calendar for April.”

I looked her in the eye and replied:
“Thank you! .....thank you, thank you, thank you! You know, I woke up this very morning thinking to myself, ‘Self, do you know what would make me REALLY happy? Do you know what would just make my day? I just want someone to take a picture of my large 5-month-pregnant-gut and slap it on a calendar that will hang on kitchen walls around the world for a whole month for friends and family to stare at. I want to memorialize the size of my belly for posterity. Gee, I truly hope that happens today.’ So, thank you dear aunt and uncle for making my day.”

For some reason, they decided not to take the picture…

So are you a camera hog (meaning you jump in every picture) or a camera ostrich (meaning do you run and hide when the cameras come out)?

It depends on how fat I am at the time of the picture.

I hear you. When I’m pregnant I tend to be behind the camera a whole lot more than in front of it.

Oh sure, but if you show up fat in a picture, you’ve got that whole “there’s a human inside me” excuse that I don’t.  Skinny jerk.

Since I’m the one usually relegated to taking the photo, I am often left out of the photos.  My fat belly has little to do with it.

I’m more of a camera ostrich, mostly because I’m homely, a little shy, and anti-social in general.

It’s funny, I got a nice digital camera several months ago, and for some reason always forget to take it with me when I go places. So I have hardly any pictures of anything taken by it, except my cats and the inside of my house. We’ve forgotten it at parties, the Titans game last weekend, trips to new places, even when cool visitors come here to the house (I had a visit from Seth and Amber, and forgot to take pictures, and spent an afternoon with Stephen of Rebelling Against Indifference, and again, no pictures).

I guess I’m just not in the habit of taking pictures, and still not used to the idea of having a convenient camera that takes instant photos and doesn’t require a week at the photo lab to get developed.

C-Hammer,
I think I really go in spurts with my picture taking. Sometimes I’ll just take a ton of pictures and my kids are sick of smiling and saying cheese. Other times I’ll constantly wish I’d thought to bring my camera to things.

My poor laptop is about at it’s capacity with all the photos I’ve taken in the 5 years I’ve owned a digital camera. I suppose I’ll soon have to either sift through and delete photos (I’ve kept just about all I’ve taken - good or bad) or get past my need to have ALL my photos on my laptop.

Kat - Extra drive space is quite cheap these days. You can buy external drives or a SAN array just for storage of things like picture libraries, music, videos, whatever. You can run RAID striping or mirroring to keep the stuff safe and backed up.

You need to become accustomed to a new word—say it with me: Terabyte. Learn it, love it, live it. Coming soon to a hard drive near you. smile

I do actually have an external hd, but I’m really weird in that even if I can bring that with me when I travel, for some reason I want ALL my stuff on my iBook....just in case.

Just in case....what? I don’t know, but I want it there. My iBook only has a 60GB HD and I don’t have or want a desktop (well, unless it was a free 20” iMac..I mean, I wouldn’t say no).

I suppose at some point I could probably just install a bigger internal hd....but frankly I’d be afraid to perform surgery on my beloved iBook.

I think I’m just going to have to get over my packrat issues and move some stuff to my external hd.

T-e-r-a-b-y-t-e....it sounds so pretty.
