John Edwards $55,000 Lecture On Poverty

On January 9, 2006, Presidential candidate John Edwards presented a lecture to 1,787 people at the University of California at Davis.
The topic was Poverty.
Edwards charged a fee of $55,000 for that one lecture.
Something doesn’t sit right with me about that.
But then, what if the topic had been international commerce? Is that $55,000 fee ok for any topic other than poverty?
What are your thoughts?

You know. I am fine with that if he donated the money to a local place that helps end poverty.
But you are right. Something just doesn’t feel right about it.
But then again...who said things make sense these days in the world?!

One thing about politicians, no matter which side of the aisle they’re on: They love to tell people how to live, but they’re not willing to live that way themselves. It’s kind of like Al Gore in the 90’s telling us about global warming in Seattle, then getting in his 747 to fly across the country to deliver the same speech in Atlanta. Just doesn’t make sense to me.

Oh, and speaking of Al Gore, he was pulled over here in Oregon a while back for speeding. No biggie, but he was driving a Lincoln at the time.

I don’t actually know what he did with the money, but I haven’t heard any news reports that he donated it.
I did read that Rudy Guliani commands twice that much for his speaking engagements.
Anyone want to hire me to give a speech?
