Jason’s Deli is My Favorite Singer

Today when we got in the car I exercised my motherly power and vetoed the playing of the “Chuga-Chuga-Choo-Choo” CD for the bazillionth time.
I decided I wanted some adult music. I also wanted my 5 week old son to sleep and I thought some nice soothing music might do the trick.
So I pulled out one of my favorite cd’s and as I put it in the cd player, The Small Person said, “Mommy, I don’t want to listen to Jason’s BoDelli. It’s booooring.”
“Um...you mean ANDREA BOCELLI?”
“Oh, yeah.”

Yeah, I like to listen to Jason’s Deli, too. But it’s such a pain to clean the mayo out of the CD player
Oh, yeah, I like that Andrea Bocelli guy, too. But’s its hard to compete with the sounds of a deli.

Now that made me laugh.
I’ve got to learn to exercise that veto power occasionally.

Euphrony,
Ewww! Mayo in the CD player.
The Smallest Person doesn’t even call it Jason’s Deli, she calls it Jason’s Jelwy.
Crystal,
The veto is vital to my sanity. When my husband or I start walking around the house humming songs with hand motions, I know it’s veto time.

We were just laughing about the songs that my mom used to sing to us as kids… she’s not very musical and didn’t have a huge “kid song” r’epertoire… so we grew up on “Take Her Out of Pity” by the Kingston Trio - a song about an “ugly and mishapened” girl who know one wants to marry.
And then there was “Running Bear” - about a young Native American brave who’s in love with a girl in a rival clan. They have to commit suicide in order to be together (sort of a Romeo/Juliet’esk story).
HA! So, if Andrea Botcelli’s too boring for your sweet ones, you could always try those 2 songs.
I don’t think, if I ever have kids, I will be able to stomach much of the kids music out today… probably has something to do with the mature music I listened to as a kid. HA!

The key is to finding something that appeals to you both.
Like the Curious George soundtrack. She knows it is fun because it is from a fun movie. You know it is good music because it is Jack Johnson.
