It’s Backwards Day! I Comment. You Post.

It’s Backwards Day here at The Secret Life of Kat. The day where I write the comment and you write the post.

So here’s my comment:

I LOVE that scene from The Princess Bride, but I have to say I never thought of it from a theological perspective.

Very interesting!

So, what’s your post?

OK, I bit, and took the “low hanging fruit” (i.e., the easy quote grin.

Um...that we’re all “mostly dead”?

Or that spiritual warfare is like having fun storming the castle?

Today I’m in recovery from Disciple Now.  Things I learned from the kids:
1.  The villan on the Powder Puff Girls is an evil monkey.
2.  Hannah Montana tickets are really expensive.
3.  The Princess Bride is all about Jesus?

[Only the first two are true.]

So the scene in the PB where Wesley & Buttercup enter the dark forest.  They were running from thier troubles (the prince and the 6-fingered man) and ran straight into the scary forest where they had to endure various trials.

Its much like our spiritual journey.  We run from our troubles, no matter what they might be.  And in our haste in going our own way we cause problems for ourselves, whether it be ROUS’es or quicksand.

But if we can trust, our Dread Pirate Roberts can lead us to the promised land.

There’s a scene in The Princess Bride that has always struck me as a parallel to our Christian walk.  It’s the one where Buttercup realizes that the Man in Black really is Westley:

Buttercup: “You mocked me once, never do it again — I died that day! And you can die too for all I care!”
[Buttercup pushes him down the hill.]

Man in Black: “As....you....wish....”

Buttercup: “Oh my sweet Westley, what have I done?”
[Buttercup jumps down the hill after him.]

Isn’t that how we treat God sometimes?  Pushing him away and pretending we don’t care or we can do it all on our own, only to realize that we can’t, he loves us no matter what, and maybe we’d better start chasing after him if we want to know him more.
