I Want My THAT Piece

The low point of our dinner on the town last night was when my two year old was eating her ice cream, which came in a fancy chocolate coated waffle cup. I didn’t order a dessert and I thought she was done with hers so, without asking, I took a piece (a small piece, mind you) of her chocolate waffle cup. About 2 minutes later her inner accountant realized that her neat piles of chocolate cup pieces didn’t tally.
She looked at me with a face marred by the depths of despair. Her mouth slowly turned down and her eyes grew wider, wet with tears. I had betrayed her. In something slightly louder than a whisper, because that was all she could choke out, she said, “...I want my that piece...”
She then began to wail, point at my belly and say, “I want my that piece.
Although it’s an upscale restaurant, they don’t provide a button at each table that, when pressed, will open the floor so that it can swallow you up.
I really missed that feature at that moment in time.
I felt horrible.
I guess I shouldn’t tell her I ate her Halloween candy…

It would be best to keep the whole candy-gate on a need-to-know basis. That could turn into a trip to the store to replace, item for item, what was illicitly consumed. And them it would be consumed again when she moved on and forgot. A vicious cycle.

What kind of mother are you???
(You should master the art of raising clueless children who don’t notice what you steal from them like me.)

Euphrony,
“Candy-gate” - it took me a minute to get it. Very funny!
Sam,
I definitely need to work on my stealth. I perhaps should have employed the old, “Look, Mickey Mouse!” while I took her piece of chocolate.
I think it was just one of those two year old things where she actually was done, but upon seeing me eat it, she wanted more...particularly the piece I ate.

Maybe you could take smaller pieces from more of a variety of locations.
