My son Daniel hates pickles, but for a quarter I can get him to drink the whole jar of pickle juice.  I’m benevolent that way wink

Glad to hear you liked it!  My embarrassing food of choice is Olive Loaf- don’t know why I love it, but I do.

You don’t have to be pregnant to drink pickle juice...just ask my 16-year-old.  He loves it.  My best friend drinks the olive juice after she’s eaten all the olives.  blech!

My mom told me when I was little, I ate A-1 on everything, not just meat.  Vegetables, fruit, mashed potates, etc.

Dave,
That’s hilarious! I have a feeling that with a boy entering out household I’ll be seeing a lot more stuff like that. Hopefully, my husband will hold off until he’s a bit older, though.

Olive loaf? I’ve never had that. I might try it.

Cristy,
Ok. Ok. I’ve sipped olive juice too. Not bad.

A-1 on fruit? I-N-T-E-R-E-S-T-I-N-G
grin

I’ve heard it’s the secret ingredient in many fabulous drinks.  Just add a scoop of vanilla . . .

When I was in Spain, I ate this medallion shaped thing that had a chalky texture.  (it was gross) When I asked what it was… they replied, “pigs blood.”

Weirdest pregnant craving?  Spiced apple cider powder drink mix, I’d eat the powder.  I could never eat rice while pregnant with all three, either.

Michelle,
Yes, at least I didn’t have icecream with it…
That’s just wrong. I wonder if anyone has ever actually done that.

Kristin,
Pigs blood? Ugh. Did you continue to eat it with that information?

It’s funny, I was so with you on the apple cider...until you said that you ate just the powder. I tend to drink it. grin That reminds me of a candy I used to eat when I was little called “Lick ‘Em Sticks” - or something like that.

Do you eat rice now? It’s certainly a good thing you’re not Asian.

When Mrs. E was pregnant the first time, with our little girl, I got curious about the pregnant cravings and found that it is, in some way, related to a eating disorder called ”pica” - like a mild form of it. (Pica is an appetite for non-nutritive substances (e.g., coal, soil, chalk, paper etc.) or an abnormal appetite for some things that may be considered foods, such as food ingredients (e.g., flour, raw potato, starch). In order for these actions to be considered pica, they must persist for more than one month, at an age where eating such objects is considered developmentally inappropriate.)

What I read about pica talked of women who would eat rubber bands, or ashes from an ash tray (no joke) and the researchers theorized that they did so with the subconscious knowledge that there was something in there that their bodies needed (iron, potassium, etc.).

By the way, Mrs. E has never had pregnant cravings.  And I have always eaten just about anything (calamari, escargot, raw oysters, reindeer).

Kat~ yes I do eat rice, It happens to be one of my favorite foods, yet while pregnant, I can not stomach it!  It’s a texture thing.

Euphrony~ I have heard of that also.  I have heard of women eating laundry detergent, or clay pots. It does have something to do with iron deficiency, although I am not sure about the laundry detergent.

I’m not pregnant (not that I know of, anyway), but dill pickle juice has always been a favorite of mine.  Over ice on a hot summer day....mmmm, nothing better.
