Engage The Journey

I’ve always wanted to read through the entire Bible. You’d think after 20 some-odd years of being a believer I would have, you know, read “The Word of God.”
But no. I haven’t. Not front to back, beginning to end.
It’s sad, I know. I’ve tried, multiple times. But those attempts simply resulted in my having read Genesis more than any other book in the Bible. I never even make it to Exodus…
This year I’ve got some help. TSLOK reader Kate MacDonald has started a site called Engage the Journey and is walking her readers through the Bible, chronologically. It’s been inspiring and challenging. If you’re at all interested, I encourage you to join in.
(On a side note, Kate also recently took a trip to Bethlehem and has some incredibly interesting posts about her trip. )
Do you have any Bible reading goals this year?

this year…
I want to focus on character studies and manners and customs. I am a sucker for manners and customs so I can “feel” the words.

I have gotten through it all once (1x), starting at the New Testament and then wrapping my way back around through the Old (since I am a nerd, I called that “reading the v2.0 manual before reading the v1.0 manual"). That was in the NIV. I am now on my second journey through using the Message, reading both OT and NT at the same time. I have read the NT more than that, and parts of the NT a lot. I am somewhat of a translations freak so there are a few places I’ve probably read ten times, and others that I have now read once, maybe twice, as I work through the Bible sequentially again. It’s hard work but rewarding!

Why, yes I do. Thanks for asking. I’m praying about teaching my children to become Seekers of the Word instead of Knowers through leading them how to ask deep questions about the Bible and in prayer. Big goal, eh?

My goal this year is just to read the Bible every day. I’m really bad about getting daily “quiet time”, so that’s my only resolution this year. Every day. Seven days down, 358 to go.

This is a really good idea!
My goal is to read more, I don’t enough.

My goal is pretty much the same as Lindsey’s, and I too am trying to read through the Bible this year. There’s a neat site called OneYearBibleOnline.com that has passages for each day of the year, and you can pick from a lot of different translations, so if you find yourself with free time near a computer, it’s a very handy site!
