Do NOT Call It A “Car”

My two year old is obsessed with our minivan and is an absolute schoolmaster when it comes to the naming conventions of vehicles.

She INSISTS on using the proper nomenclature for every vehicle she sees.

If I accidentally call the minivan a car, she quickly and fervently corrects me, “It not a car it a miniban!!!!”

I was once even in the midst of an adult converstion with a friend while our children played and I inadvertently said, “I think I left my purse in the car...”

The antenae on my 2 year old went up and she stopped playing long enough to say, “It not car, Mommy. It a miniban! See that (pointing at a car)? See where my pinger pointing? That car - this miniban”

Well, then.

(Here’s an excerpt from a conversation I had recently with my 2 year old schoolmaster and my 4 year old peacemaker.)

That’s precious.

For the record, I’m in agreement with The Smaller Person.

It’s NOT a car. (But you can call it a car if you want to.)

C-Hammer,
You and The Smaller Person are absolutely right.

However, I’m trying to adjust to calling it a minivan, but after 31 years of being a car owner it’s hard to remember to say, “The minivan needs gas” instead of “The car needs gas.”

I’m just so used to saying car as a rather generic term....like kleenex or coke.

As I’m trying to make this transition, I find that The Smaller Person shows no mercy. grin
