Deep Thoughts While Running

I tend to have deep thoughts when I’m out for a run.

Perhaps it’s the lack of oxygen.

Perhaps it’s the uniqueness of having more than 30 seconds of uninterrupted thought.

In anycase, this thought stuck me today:

I tend to define my life by what I get - success, popularity, money, prestige - (you know, all the things that come with being a stay at home mom) rather than what I give.

Jesus’ life was defined not by what he got but by what He gave away.

Mother Teresa, Billy Graham...they’re known for what they gave.

I want to be like that.

I do too.

I want to be less self focused, and more others focused.

I surfed over from Transition Pete’s blog...great post.  Running is a great way for us to get alone with God...you post is an encouragement as well as a conviction...good post.

Kristin,
It’s hard though, isn’t it? I suppose the key is to be God-focused and He’ll make us others-focused.

Hi Billy!
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to share your thoughts.

I agree, when I run I have the best time praying because there’s nothing to distract me and I’m really focused.

Amy,
You’re welcome.

Its easy to get into that trap of being defined by your status in life or your stuff.

I work with some extremely rich people in my career.  Saw a couple of $10 million W-2’s this year.  Its true what they say, that the rich have the same problems, its just that they can afford them.

But the state of man is the same regardless of wealth or income.  Millions of dollars does not bring happiness.  I have seen the very rich ($50 million net worth) have kids who kill themselves.

Because there is only one thing that can fill that hole in a person’s soul:  Jesus.
