Daddy, She Spitted At Me!!!

The other day, I was sitting in the living room rocking my sleeping baby boy when I heard The Small Person and The Smaller Person arguing in the bathtub. Not being quite as verbal as her older sister, The Smaller Person apparently resorted to spitting to communicate her position.
The Small Person didn’t like to be spat upon and yelled for assistance from her Dad who was taking out the trash.
Since I was holding my sleeping baby, I was unable to intervene and this hilarious monologue ensued:
Daddy, she spitted at me!
Daddy! She spitted at me again.
Daddy! She spitted at me 3 times.
Daddy! She spitted at me 4 times.
Daddy! She spitted at me 5 times.
Daddy! She spitted at me 6 times.
Daddy! She spitted at me 7 times.
Daddy! She spitted at me 8 times, 9 times, 10..
11, 12, 13 times!
(Pause)
Daddy! She spitted at me again!
15, 16, 17 times!!!
At this point she was pretty much beside herself and Daddy finally came inside and rushed to the rescue at 20 times.
Me? I was shaking with the intense laughter that often renders people silent.
Perhaps she’ll be an accountant when she grows up.

Kat, you have done a wonderful job with those girls. My girls would have resorted to violence after the second time. lol
A pacifist accountant, the world needs more.

Too cute! I love that she didn’t do anything about it except keep counting! My boys would have been drenching each other with buckets by that point!

My mom told me a story about my two older sisters. They exchanged spit propulsion attacks on each other. So my mom made them stand 2 feet apart and take turns spitting on each other for about 10 minutes. They never spit on each other again after that.

what are your secrets for raising pacifist children? Are you going to turn that into a second post, or leave us hanging in awe and wonder with only half the story?

Ironically, it never occurred to me that it was unusual that she didn’t resort to violence. I just thought it was funny that she kept track of the spit count.
Interesting observation. Now that I think about it, I guess my kids really are pretty peaceful. Cool…
