Cool New Songs!!!

image Audio Adrenaline has a new song out!!!

It’s called Big, Big House!!!

I heard it on my Christian radio station today!!! They keep me up to date on all the latest music. They’re in the know.

Thanks Christian radio for all the great new music!!!

In case you don’t have a Christian radio station in your area like I do, here’s a list of some of the latest songs from Nashville that I heard this week.

Some of them have electric guitars in them!!! So cool.

The Newsboys - Shine
DC Talk - Just Between You and Me
Rachael Lampa - Blessed
Third Day - Love Song
Bob Carlisle - Butterfly Kisses

It’s so great to know all the latest music…

What “new” songs have you heard on the radio lately?

That’s one of my biggest turn-offs to Christian radio. Hardly anything new! And I’m just not too crazy about a lot (not all, of course, but some) of the old stuff. Audio Adrenaline excluded haha smile

Also, shameless plug: I actually started updating my blog this week! woohoo!

I haven’t listened to the radio in awhile, but I know what you mean.  It’s funny how some of those songs are still played so much it’s like they are brand new.  But I’d like to point out that it’s not only Christian radio that does that.  I think they’re more annoying about it, though.

Oh, please, don’t get me started.  Really, I could go on for days - Mrs. E will attest to that - about the “new” music on CCM.  It’s especially fun when heir “new” music is one of these crossover-types (Switchfoot, Mat Kearney, etc.) whose “new” song has been playing on the mainstream station for a year or more.  Even the legitimately “new” songs often come from albums that were released more than a year ago.

Satire and sarcasm in the same post!?!

Very nice!

I don’t listen anymore because of that same issue.

AGH! I hate that! If I hear another Crystal Lewis song on the radio I’m going to scream!

...too late.

The station here in the Valley plays the same songs over and over ad nauseum! Doesn’t anyone write new music any more?

Good post Kat!! Love you!

There is some new stuff on our local station here in Waco. They are breaking some artists here like Andrae Crouch and Sandi Patty, and I even hear there’s this girl named Amy Grant who sounds promising…

I heard a new one today..."The Christmas Shoes”. Anyone else heard it on their station? Hope so!

Wow. I thought I was the only one. Same bad songs over and over and over and over. There are some good ones thrown in there . . .

Butterfly Kisses. I’m sorry, but this song makes me want to pluck out my eye.

Great post! Most people would be shocked to know that typically one single person, the “program director”, makes all of the decisions on what will be played and what new songs will be added...one person, one subjective set of ears, and usually one 30 second clip of the song being decided on.

You may also find it interesting to know that the major labels generally release all of their new singles at the the same times every year, which means that this “one” person literally now finds a stack of 50 plus new singles on their desk to sort thru...not very good odds for a brand new band that has legitimately great music...its easier just to stick to the familiar.

I am reminded once again why I bought the domain name freetheradio.com awhile back...and no I wasn’t feeling very spiritual when I bought it! Of course we could just blame all of this on christian radios target audience, suburban soccer moms...just kidden Kat!!!

Like Michael said, that radio station is supposed to be geared towards you, Kat!  And like Euphrony said, I could go on and on about this.  Gee, do I have anything new to contribute?  I guess not, which is pretty fitting for a post about Christian radio.

Okay, I’ll contribute one more thing…
I’ve been trying to get our song “Heaven In A Manger” played on Christian radio at Christmas for years. I’m always told there’s no room on the playlist.
I asked the PD at a big Atlanta radio station (I won’t say the name, but it rhymes with “The Dish FM") wink if they would just NOT play “The Christmas Shoes” ONCE and play our song. They refused. They said the soccer moms (sorry, Kat) WANTED to hear “Shoes” when they were in their minivan, so they HAD to play it over and over to ensure their audience was satisfied.
Irony? Last week, I contacted a top-40 station in Chattanooga. The PD said he’d listen to the song. He listened once, liked it, and said they’d play it.
Go figure.

Jeremy,
I was hoping all the !!! would give away my sarcasm.

I thought about explaining myself at the end of the post, but I thought it was more fun just to let people wonder.

grin

By the way, did you notice in my post on running a few days ago, I finally spelled your name correctly? I thought you’d be proud that I got that whole “i before e” thing down.

...yes i’m getting a bit sick of all the hooplah about “new music” myself...even when it is new...it’s the same old sound.  Who are they trying to kid?

...the problem is that initially, there weren’t very many excellent bands so we had to deal with the ones we had that were good...but that’s all changed.  There’s mad material out there so what gives?

Sarcasm at it’s finest. Kudos.

Our local WayFM station likes to keep things fresh with “Flood” and “Love Song For A Savior” by Jars of Clay! I know the guy who used to be the station manager and I asked him what the deal was with these decade-old songs. His answer was “They still test well”.

Oh my, I forgot about these songs. All of you are right. This album is so old. The one promoted on the radio must be a remake because all good songs should be revived. I can’t drive long distances without listening to religious music. It calms me and keeps my mind on the road alone. Thanks Kat for reminding me about this collection. I have to go visit my family pretty soon and now I know what I’m gonna listen to.
