Christy Nockels and an iPhone Make a Really Good Week
Posted on 06.03.09 in Music Tech Stuff and there are
It’s been a crazy couple of weeks ‘round these parts. Crazy. Some good, some not as good.
And some super, duper cool.
My New iPhone
I have an iPhone now! A sweet friend of mine, who recently upgraded to the 3g iPhone, gave me her old one.
Gave it to me. How incredible is that? I’ve been having a blast figuring it all out and buying fun new apps.
Here are the apps I’ve bought so far: Things, Flight Control, iFitness, BibleReader, Kindle for iPhone, Remote, PacMan, AniMatch and Pandora.
What are you favorite iPhone apps?
Christy Nockels
Another fun moment was when I got an email from Christy Nockels’ (of Watermark) PR team. They wanted to know if I’d be interested in helping them get the word out about her new album.
Um, YES!
I only play Christy’s song Invade every single morning. I love listening to that song as a prepare for the day and pray for my family. If you don’t own it, you need to buy it - here.
Even cooler, is that they want to know if you all would be interested too.
Christy and her team have some VERY cool ideas up their sleeves AND they’d love for you to be a part of it all. So, if you are a blogger, Twitterer, Facebooker or anything like that, please email me, leave a comment or message me on Twitter. I’m compiling a list of folks interested in getting the inside scoop on it all.
Question For You
It’s AMAZING how far cell phones have come. I remember the bag car phone my grandmother used to have back in the day. When I was in college I had a big black brick phone (no comments about my age please...) that I never used because it was only for emergencies. And did I have a doosy of an emergency. I’ll have to tell that story sometime…
I’m curious - when did you get your first cell phone?

I didn’t get my own cell phone until 2004, when I got married, moved away from home, and was paying my own bills.
My parents had one they would let me borrow if I went on long car trips.

CHRISTY NOCKELS!!! Messaging you rightnow.

Vanderbilt Wife - You know I can’t imagine taking a long car trip anymore WITHOUT a cell phone. So glad they were invented for my season of parenthood.
Marla - Got it. You crack me up.

We were in on the first wave of “real” cell phones in 1996 with Sprint. However, I had a in car Motorla car phone ( it was “portable “ to another car-came in bag) in 1989 when I went to college with a 9 hour drive from home. What can I say-I had a paranoid father!

I got one about 5 years. Just so I could do my work calling advertisers while my kids were at paddling practice at the river.

Carrie - 1989? You cutting edge girl you.
Pokinatcha - paddling practice?

In 1991 I got my first phone, a Motorola MicroTAC. I was 20 and living large with my 45 mins a month plan or something like that.

Christopher - 45 minute plan? Ha! I bet that went well with the 64mb computer hard drive you probably had back in ‘91.

Iphone aps:
Todo (works great with ical and the hit list), Shazzam (don’t know how I lived w/o it!) , Tweetie, 1Password(syncs to the desktop app and keeps me up to date), Quick Voice, Camera Bag, Tetris
Christy Nockels: I got the album and have been listening to it on repeat. I always loved watermark. Put me on that list.
Ummm phone....like 1999/2000 ish? I am not a phone person. I only got one because I was traveling A WHOLE LOT. Don’t remember much about it except it was Verizon. Now I love my iPhone, but more as a toy than a phone

I got my first bag phone for my 18th bday in 1995. Perhaps that sounds late to you, but in the AR hills I was one of the first. The coverage was so terrible that it was highly unlikely that it would be of any use.

In 1993 I had a car phone. It was a choice between this big bag you lugged around or have a phone installed in my car. I went with car. I had a handheld cell phone for work in 1995. Then my own personal cell phone in 1996.
I’d love to hear more about the Christy Nockels promo. I blog as well.

Free iPhone? That’s awesome!
I got my first cell phone in 1998, when I was 17. My mom got it for me because she worried about me getting stranded on the road somewhere and getting mugged. She likes to look on the bright side of things.

My first cell phone was in 1996 along with my first e-mail address. Was that really 13 years ago?
Yes, I’d like to help get the word out about Christy’s album. It’s amazing!

I gotta think it was ‘93-94 maybe even ‘95. It was the smaller brick that was the last of it’s kind before the smaller things came out.
Jun 03, 09 at 03:23 pm
It was a brick, circa 1997. A year before I got onto the internet. Yes, I waited that long.

Here’s a shocker… I did NOT get my 1st cell phone until I got my 1st job - after graduating from college… Waco ISD gave it to me… & this was in the year 2003… Even bigger shocker… Roy & I did not get cell phones of our very own until 2005 or 2006… whew.. Now we don’t even have a land line.

I got my first cell phone in 1999 when we lived in Germany. SMS-ing was free over there & I was shocked at how much it cost to send messages when we came back to the States.
I may be interested in helping out with the Christy Nockels campaign (twitter, facebook, blog). You can add me to the list.

Umm...Christy Nockels, yes please!
BTW I made it through college without a cell phone until my junior year: 2003-2004 is when I finally got my first cell phone...a sony ericson.

1995, Motorola Star-Tac, I think. It was a brick, of course. Hey, is that iPhone jailbroken? I loved my jailbroken phone but i un-jailbroke it and am excitedly awaiting Monday’s WWDC.

I have been listening to “The Purest Place” and “Constant” CD’s an awful lot lately, wishing they would put out more music- I am PSYCHED!!!! (as we used to say back in the day...)
I got my first cell phone about 6 years ago. I have gotten one new phone since then (only because the old one was not digital or something cool like that and the phone company FORCED me to get a new one...) I don’t know how to take pictures, text, play games… don’t even have voice mail set up… I just know that the green button means dial and the red one means hang up. I am not old… I guess I’m just set in my ways! My kids are trying to drag me kicking and screaming into the 21st century…
