Can I Be A Complete Dork For A Moment?

I’m Cool

I’ve worked in and around the music industry for many years at venues, record labels and radio stations.

I’ve met lots of artists and I don’t really get starstuck. They’re just regular people with image consultants.

Sometimes nice, sometimes not. Sometimes interesting, sometimes not. Usually well dressed.

I’m A Dork

However, today I reserve the right to be a complete and utter dork.

You see, I’ve listened to Amy Grant’s music as long as I can remember. Age to Age and Lead Me On were the soundtracks of my youth. I didn’t buy anything but Amy Grant’s albums until I was about 12.

Then I bought a Michael W. Smith album because he was in her band and a Rich Mullins album because he wrote “Sing Your Praise To The Lord.”

I branched out from there.

Stinkin’ Cool

As you can imagine, I’m still a bit starstruck when it comes to Amy Grant.

Therefore, I found it ridiculously cool when I saw this picture on my blog-friend Michael’s blog:

Sooo...since I’m on Michael’s blogroll and Michael chills with Amy Grant, does that make me 1 or 2 degrees of separation from being her #1 best friend?

(Be sure to check out Michael’s blog and Michael’s band - Pocket Full of Rocks.)

My first concert EVER was Amy Grant’s “House of Love” tour. I went with my parents...I think I was 6 or 7. I remember the t-shirt I bought and the fact that I thought the encore was so cool. I felt so special that Amy Grant would come out and play a few more songs for us because we yelled really loud.

HAHA! Your nearly made me spew my coffee all over the coffee shop! As I said in my post, Amy really is one of the nicest, coolest people I have met...you should go check out the pics on her site labeled “Recreate”...it can be a little surreal when you find yourself holding Amy...literally!

I danced onstage with Amy on the last show of the “Unguarded” tour. And I’ve eaten breakfast with her. So you can be a few degrees through me, too. smile

Maybe I shouldn’t tell you that several of my friends in high school were participants in the Bible study at the Loft.  As in, Songs from the Loft.  A side effect of this is that when Amy started dating Vince, it was just gossip at the high school football games, because he started bringing her to watch his daughter cheer.

Lindsey,
My first concert was an Amy Grant concert too. Except I think it was the Age to Age tour…

Michael,
I’m glad I made you laugh. I hope your move is going well. Thanks for making me feel cool.

Paul,
You’re in a league all by yourself. I have vivid memories of my brother and I watching “Train Up In The Sky” on ZTV. I think it’s pretty stinkin’ cool you visit this blog too.

Breakfast with Amy definitely wins some bonus points, though. grin

TIA,
I remember thinking that those kids that got to go to The Loft were so lucky.

Grandma,
Yes, but I only chatted with Amy for a few minutes (although it was cool that I got to meet her - thank you Jeff Scott and Chaz). Still, Michael SANG with her - that’s like uber cool.

Yeah, and at the time, there was actually a BAND called “Breakfast With Amy”. My wife and I found that pretty ironic.
