Blog Envy

I couldn’t have gone this year anyway…
That’s what I keep telling myself. I mean, I have a 9 month old who is still nursing. And the trip probably would have made me miss Jimmy and my 10 year anniversary. And I’ve never left my kids for more than 48 hours, what would I do for a whole week? And...and…
And I have blog envy. You see, Compassion International is sending a group of big time bloggers to Uganda in February to give them a first hand look at Compassion’s work there and to give them an opportunity to live-blog about their experiences.
It’s a good thing I’m not a big-time blogger....because I couldn’t have gone anyway.
Folks like Boomama and Rocks In My Dryer are getting their shots and preparing for an experience that will likely change their lives.
Thousands of people visit Boomama and RIMD’s blogs everyday and will be reading all about the Ugandan children that they’ll meet and the wonderful work that Compassion is doing in that country.
It’s a good thing thousands of people don’t visit my site everyday...because I couldn’t have gone anyway.
I’ve been reading Boomama’s blog for a couple of weeks now and she’s completely hilarious. Like, Brant hilarious. Yes, THAT funny. And her use of exclamation points in posts is pure genius. I know she’s going to do a great job sharing about her journey and inspiring us to live differently. I’m very happy for her…
You know, since I couldn’t have gone anyway.

That reminds me of the ancient saying, “Envy of someone else’s blog is what makes us human”. Or something like that.

Lol, cool dad.
I felt the same way when I read their blogs about the trip, Kat.
But, you don’t have to be invited to take a trip like that. And you could still blog about it.

You can go to Congo with me next time if you want!

My church (Garland, TX) has a group going to Kenya (maybe I guess now after all the trouble there) in the Spring.
But really, thanks for that BooMama blog. What a riot, that is one funny BooMama.
I love people that are just naturally funny like that. Thanks again.

I think you should go next year. You would be an excellent blogger about your experiences!

Back when I started my blog, if someone had told me that I would get to go to Africa one day and blog about it, I would’ve rolled my eyes and said something sarcastic.
Which is really no different than how I respond in most situations, but still.
Anyway, one reason I hope this trip is a HUGE success for Compassion is because maybe it’ll become a regular event and more bloggers will get to go each time. It’s such a great idea on their part, you know?
And MANY thanks for your sweet words - I feel all encouraged and smiley.

2 things:
1) BooMama commented on your blog. Wowsa.
2) I couldn’t have gone this year either. Maybe we’re slated for next year? Probably.

Think Katito Kenya for your next vacation. Its our new “sister city” that our church is working for.
Here is a link to some cool stuff we are working on:

So far we have sponsored over 500 kids via Compassion. I really would like to go on the next trip. But its in the middle of tax season. And when its tax season, i am married to tax returns and my tiny little practice.
Maybe a fall trip…

Cool Dad,
Ha!
Amy,
Well, if you want to be all practical and logical about it…
Texas In Africa,
Umm...I read your blog...when you start your Tuscany studies...call me.
Deemus,
You’re welcome.
Kristin,
Tell your neighbor that…
Boomama,
Thanks so much for stopping by! (Hey everyone, BOOMAMA commented on my blog!!!! Cool!!!)
Ahem, seriously, I’m very excited for you and all the other bloggers going on this trip. I’m sure it will be life changing, for you, your readers and most importantly, for all the kids that get sponsored as a result.
Annie,
1) Yeah, that pretty much makes me cool now…
2) Probably.
Deemus,
500 kids? That’s awesome!
Have fun during tax season. My husband loves doing our taxes. He gets all giddy when the forms come in the mail.

Deemus,
I checked out that link to your church. I think it’s cool how they’re focusing their energy and resources to impact one spot deeply instead of lots of places a little bit.

Oooohh,Kat. You got me envious too. I never plan to be a big time blogger (I blog because I enjoy it- absolutely no other reason), but this alone does make me wish I was on that list. I’m glad for those who get to go. I hope to remember to read. Let us know when they are there.
