What Are Your “Landmark Albums?”

Well, it’s been about a week since I’ve written about Brooke Fraser and her album Albertine.
Whew. You guys are probably going through withdrawals.
Seriously, though, you know how every 10 or 50 years or so an album just strikes you to the core? For me, this is one of those albums.
The past few days, these lyrics from The C.S. Lewis Song have been speaking volumes to me:
My comfort would prefer me to be numb
and avoid the impending birth
of who I was born to become....hope is coming for me
....hope is coming for me
I adore the richness of the line, “Hope is coming for me.”
So often we think of hope in a passive way. “I hope such and such happens...” But we have a Hope that is real. A Hope that is actively pursuing us.
Wow. Whatever your situation. Whatever your dreams. Whatever your fears.
Hope. Is. Coming. For. You.
For me in particular, these lyrics remind the that though I’m mired in comfort, there is hope for my selfish heart.
I desperately want to live a life lost in Him and I know He wants me to be so much more than who I am today.
I won’t let comfort get in the way of that...and even when I do...Hope is coming for me.
Here is a great video of this song. If you’re in a hurry, watch 3:01 - 4:01. But if you can, watch the whole thing.
Is that not an amazing song?? (I’ve posted the lyrics in the comments for any other lyric freaks out there...)

Here are the lyrics:
If I find in myself desires nothing in this world can satisfy
I can only conclude that I was not made for here
If the flesh that I fight is at best only light and momentary
Then of course I’ll feel nude when to where I’m destined I’m compared
CHORUS
Speak to me in the light of the dawn
Mercy comes with the morning
I will sigh and with all creation groan
As I wait for hope to come for me
Am I lost or just less found,
On the straight or on the roundabout of the wrong way?
Is this a soul that stirs in me,
Is it breaking free, wanting to come alive?
‘Cause my comfort would prefer for me to be numb
And avoid the impending birth
Of who I was born to become
CHORUS
Bridge
For we, we are not long here
Our time is but a breath
So we better breathe it
And I, I was made to live
I was made to love
I was made to know you
Hope is coming for me
CHORUS

Kat! This song has been the song of my week! It might be my favorite on this album. I think the lyrics are absolutely exquisite, gorgeously constructed and I find something new in them each time (of the 4,000 million) I’ve listened to them on repeat. Anyway, just had to say. I love the bridge.
Landmark albums...Andrew Peterson’s Love and Thunder and The Far Country. Watermark’s All Things New.
Do you also love Sara Groves “It Might Be Hope”? I love the line, “hope has a way of turning its face to you, just when you least expect it” Well, I love the whole chorus. Anyway, enough rambling from me.

My most recent was “A Collision or (3+4=7)” by David Crowder Band. I love the line, “Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but nobody wants to die.” It was a landmark album for both the music/lyrics and the time of my life it represents.

Wide-Eyed and Mystified, downhere

i couldn’t agree more. Her writing is amazing....like that line in hymn that says, “would you find and firm and gather ‘til I only dwell in Thee.”
The production is killer too...i like that there aren’t tons of layers.

Lovely, Kat! I too enjoy “Go West, Young Man” and it was a handy song and still is when I needed to pinpoint my direction!!

I totally agree with “Wide-Eyed and Mystified” by Downhere. I’ll also add “Jars of Clay” by Jars of Clay, “Twilight” by Shaun Groves, “Tell Me What You Know” by Sara Groves and “She Must And Shall Go Free” by Derek Webb. Easily my top 5 favorite Christian artists. Also loving Brooke Fraser. I can listen to her sing “Lead Me To The Cross” on Hillsong United’s album all day long.

Hi Kat!
i stop by here every once in a while… and after reading this post I decided to buy this album on itunes for only 6bucks! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It’s an amazing album, lyrically and musically. Thank you so much for introducing me to her work!
And Albertine...wow.
Having been to South Africa(I know she wrote it about Rwanda, but SA is my experience) twice, it hits home.
