Am I Weird? Confessions Of An Office Supply Freak.

My husband and I celebrated our 9th anniversary a few weeks ago. He wrote a sweet note, brought home flowers for me and gave me a gift certificate to Office Max.

I love Office Max. I love any office supply store. When I worked at KSBJ I LOVED checking out the office supply closet.

- Binder clips
- Notepads
- Pens
- Sticky notes

So, today I took my girls to Disneyland Office Max and we wandered around for quite awhile looking at their:

- Binders
- Notepads
- Pens
- Sticky notes

I think my girls must have my office supply gene because after about 45 minutes there, they surprisingly were not writhing around on the floor in utter boredom.

I ended up buying a nice little notebook, color coded index cards, new paper and a really nifty pen.

Am I weird or does that sound fun to anyone else?

Sounds fun to me… I always have to force myself to pass the office section at Target, or I’ll buy something.  I completely related to your earlier post of a"type B trying to be a type A”
You must love it a little more if your husband got you a gift card there for your anniversary!  How fun though, congratulations!

Good to know I’m not alone, Kristin!

I think the best thing about getting a gift card to an Office Supply store is that you can buy a whole lot of cool stuff for very little money.

Normally, I get gift cards for technology places like Best Buy or Circuit City. Those are certainly fun, but you have to save them up before you can buy anything.

With an Office Max gc, I can go and shop to my heart’s content, buy some fun art/learning stuff for my kids and still have money left over.

I think it’s sweet that my husband knows me so well.

When did you work at KSBJ?

I think it sounds like fun.  I like the organization section, I could spend hours there!

Hi Paul,
I worked at KSBJ from about 1999-2004. I started out as a volunteer, then I became the Special Events Assistant and then the Ticketing Manager and started what is now called Ticket Servant (the name was not my idea).

It was the best job ever. I got paid to attend concerts and work with really Godly, funny, creative and kind people.

Cristy,
So are you actually a naturally organized person or are you like Kristin and I - “Type B’s trying to be Type A’s”?

I did a lot of interviews with KSBJ back in the day. They were always one of the most supportive stations for us. But that was back in 1985 to 1990. I’m old.
By the way, I’ll be glad to exchange links with you. I like your music page as well.

Paul,
Consider yourself linked. Thanks!

You’re weird. wink

Wow! That’s Paul Joseph from Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart. That’s so awesome. I had several of their albums (on vinyl and/or cassette) back in the day, and saw them in concert several times during the time Paul would have been playing with them (including a big outdoor music festival in Houston that KSBJ probably sponsored/promoted).

I guess I should be much more impressed here in Nashville that everyone I meet and see is some sort of famous CCM star or has connections to someone who is, but for some reason, I’m more impressed to run across somebody who was doing it back in the day. Maybe it’s because I was a new Christian back then, and there was some sort of innocent magic to the whole CCM thing, instead of the rampant cynicism that surrounds it today.

Sorry to blather on here, Kat. That’s just so cool.

This has to correspond with my secret desire to work at Kinkos when my children are grown.  I get all sweaty palmed over a nice piece of cardstock.

C-Hammer and Paul,
No Way! that’s SO cool! I remember when I was little, my grandfather had satellite tv and there was a christian video station called z-music. Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart were on ALL the time. If I remember correctly, the main video was called Way Up In The Sky?…

That just made my day. Thanks for pointing that out C-Hammer. Welcome aboard Paul!

cool…

TrueVyne,
That’s completely hilarious!

I’m a Type A afraid that I’m slowly turning into a Type B thanks to my Type B hubby.  (One look around my work office tells me that I’m slipping.) The organization section of the office supply store is a place where I can fantasize about helping him to become a Type A, and keeping myself that way.  He’s a self-employed contractor and his office is in our home...and his office just freaks me out.  He frequently asks me to type estimates for him and I just… can’t even get started until I make some sort of order out of the...EVERYTHING!...lying on his desk.  The funny thing is that I don’t even think he notices the clutter, but I’ve been working on him trying to convince him that his time is too valueble to spend it looking for things that should have been properly organized.  I think I have my job cut out for me. wink

Cristy,
I’ve always sort of been glad that I’m a type B. It seems like it would be really annoying to be a type A. We type B’s just enjoy our chaotic oblivion.

On the occasions when I’m actually playing the part of a Type A rather well, I find the chaos of others rather bothersome.

Yes, you’re weird.  Not just the office supply part, because I’m with you on that.  It’s the whole “9-months-pregnant-anniversary-gift-card-to- Office-Max-geekiness” thing that makes you weird.  Picturing that is trés amusant.

This sounds like every woman that I know so no, you are not weird.  You are probably the most sane blogger I know.  I mean, just look at that chart you made!

I rank Office Max up there with the fabric store on the gnaw-my-arm-off-from-boredom scale.

Yep, that’s me.

And by the way, I love office supply stores.
