A Weekend of Firsts

The Small Person and I are back from our trip to L.A. It was wonderful!

I’ll write more later, but we had several firsts this weekend; some significant, some silly.

1. The Small Person went on her first plane ride - and loved it.
(Thanks to the book Aunt Diana sent that explained all the little noises and bumps.)
image Here she is showing her bear the sights.

2. I saw a picture that had both my mother and me in it.
She wasn’t holding me, but my dad was and she was sitting right next to me. My Aunt Maya (whom I met this weekend said that my mom really wanted to take that picture even though she was feeling terrible.)
image This is a picture of a picture - hence the poor image quality. And yes, that scrawny rat-like looking baby is me.

3. My Aunt Rufe gave me a diamond ring that used to belong to my mother.
I don’t have many things that were my mothers so it was really special to get something as significant as a diamond ring.

4. We missed our connecting flight from Houston to L.A. - by 3 minutes.
I’ve never missed a flight before, so it was a bit stressful, but it all worked out well.

5. I was frequently the tallest person in the room.
At 5’ 4” that doesn’t happen often.
image This is a picture of me (on the right) with two of my many cousins.

6. The Small Person got her first treat from an ice cream truck.
Being the dedicated mother that I am, I actually chased the truck down the street in order to get it for her.
image
The Small Person got a orange push up - that was my favorite when I was little.

So, what is your favorite childhood icecream truck treat?

Push-ups were always my favorite, too!

And I think it’s SO awesome that you are getting these opportunities to connect with your family.  Thanks for sharing the photos.

Score!  Now I’m wanting an orange push-up, just like I used to get.

Glad you had a good weekend.  Sorry about the flight.

Glad you’re back, safe and sound!  My favorite was also the one with the gum in the bottom that turned your mouth the color of the gum.  Can’t remember what it’s called though.

What a great opportunity to meet your family. You once again have inspired me, I have never met my paternal family. I have found them and talked with them over the phone, Im encouraged to go meet them. Wasnt it a bit scary?
I think you look alot like your mother. She was beautiful. Im so glad you were also able to take home some treasures-not only the tangible treasures.
I cant wait to hear more about it, you will have to fill me in later!

One of my favorite ice creams are the pink panther, with the gumball as his nose.

That sounds like an amazing trip, and a very special photo and gift.

~My favorite from the ice cream truck were those astronaut pops.

I always liked the ones that are called rocket pops or something--anyway they’re red, white and blue....mmmm!

Sounds like you had an amazing trip.  How incredible to discover connections to your mother!  I’m glad you had a good time.  smile

Orange creamsicle.

Glad your kid liked the flight.  My kids love flying, but we’ve yet to fly as a family now that the kids are beyond the free stage, and we moved to within 1500 miles of family.
