A New Tradition

On Saturday night, my girls and I finished watching the Anne of Green Gables movie, drank hot chocolate and camped out around the Christmas tree for the night.
It was really fun.
Except when it wasn’t.
Remember summer camp?
Giggling, whispering, tapping, coughing, wiggling and more giggling? For hours.
I’m sure it will be a fun tradition for them, but next year I won’t have such high expections - like actually sleeping.
What are your favorite Christmas traditions?

Well, Christmas is my favorite holiday, so I have lots of traditions, but I’ll name a few.
1. We decorate a gingerbread house. My kids LOVE this.
2. We all wear Christmas theme pajamas on Christmas Eve. I love this one!
3. Going to Church on Sunday in our Christmas outfits. So much fun.
4. Going to the light show. We all love this one.
5. Watching Polar Express with my boys. We started this one a couple of years ago.

My wife and I are still developing our own Christmas traditions, since the first 5/6 Christmases have been spent traveling 1500 miles (on average) to see family.
Going to Christmas mass has been our only constant and it is one I treasure. It is important to remember that this holiday isn’t essentially about me, my presents or even my immediate family. It is essentially about the incarnation: God coming to earth as a man to give all of mankind an opportunity to become His children. If I can’t make time to worship God and remember that, then I’ve lost sight of the most important part of Christmas.

Going to see the lights around town.
Hanging our own decorations - this year, Lil’E has been quite the helper.
On Christmas morning, I make cinnamon roles from scratch.

We always look at the lights
On Christmas eve, they get to open one gift, which I get to choose
On Christmas morning, My wife makes incredible omlettes for all. Everyone wakes up to the smell of food
On Christmas morning I read the Christmas story, the actual part of the birth) to them before anything happens
Then, its a free for all with the gifts. Having 9 people in the house, its pretty funny, and nears pure chaos.
Nice gesture Kat. Its amazing how small kids love the smallest thing thats different from thier normal routine.
Then we open gifts

My husband and I are spending our first Christmas together, so we’ll have to create our own traditions!
In the past my family has always gone to look at the lights around the neighborhood, and my mom and I always watch White Christmas and drink hot chocolate. Then on Christmas morning she always makes monkey bread.
I think your tradition sounds great, and I can’t wait to have kids and start traditions with them!

being a PK, we used to have a little family Christmas program before opening presents. My sister and I would make the programs. (yes we had programs) we had stellar performances by the men’s choir (my grandpa, dad, and brother) and the women’s choir (my grandma, mom, sister, and me) there was a special duet for my grandparents.
we would have several Scripture readings (verses related to Christmas) and one of the kids would “preach”
I always loved it so much. I loved it more than opening presents. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s true.
