image Derek Webb made a lot of noise last fall when he gave away over 80,000 copies of his album Mockingbird for FREE.

Derek discovered that giving away Mockingbird at no cost actually increased the sales of all his merch (including Mockingbird).

That bold promotional move garnered him media coverage from such diverse outlets as Paste Magazine, USA Today and the LA Times.

Now Derek has joined forces with industry veterans Mark Nicholas, David McCullom and innovative designer Brannon McAllister to create NoiseTrade.com. The goal of this new venture is provide high quality music at no cost to fans in exchange for viral marketing and word of mouth promotion. Music lovers will be able to check out new music and if they find something they like, they will have access to tools that will allow them to easily get the word about their new musical discovery.

There’s a very interesting interview with Derek Webb on the site. Check it out.
