Hugh Brown, a PhD candidate at Queensland University is conducting a 3 year doctoral study on independent music and digital distribution.

This project’s purpose is to investigate the factors affecting independent musicians’ access to music markets and to figure out how to make it easier for independent musicians to reach their musical goals.

Right now he’s doing a survey in indie artists and their use of digital media and distribution. Over the next 24 months he’ll use what he’s learning to form a band and launch an album. Along the way he’ll be evaluating and documenting the process.

According to his site, the results of his study will be released to participants in an active effort to benefit the independent music industry.

If you’d like to participate, check out Hugh Brown’s web site.
