Artist Blogs

* More Artist Blogs *

image Normally when I encourage musicians to promote themselves online, I suggest that they do so in subtle ways such as:

  • Making sure you have links to your music in every email, blog comment and forum post.
  • Commenting frequently on various blogs. (But please don’t spam. Only comment when you actually have something to contribute.)
  • Start your own blog. (Like Shaun, Ryan and Nate.)
  • Get involved in an online community such as Indieheaven and use it to network. (Again, please don’t spam, though.)

But today I’m opening the floor for you to introduce yourself and promote your music...blatantly.

So go ahead, write a comment and tell us about yourself and your music.

Hey Kat!

Christopher Ames here. My music is a stew made up of the Beatles, Larry Norman, Tom Petty, Phil Keaggy, Randy Stonehill and Starbucks coffee… played with just ten fingers and one guitar! I also bring witness to the faithfulness of God in the struggles of illness, specifically in my family’s case, eating disorders. I would love folks to check my music and ministry out!

Thanks for the opportunity to infiltrate your space, Kat.

My name is Andrew, and I’m a songwriter/singer/keyboardist. My wife and I recorded a CD of my original CCM material a few years ago here. A few of my influences are Neil Finn, Shaun Groves (in fact, I started reading this site from a link from Shaun’s site), Derek Webb, Jars, and Glen Phillips among dozens of others.

(Oh, and Lynn - you may want to fix the link to your blog. The URL in your comment doesn’t work, but http://lynnharrison.blogspot.com/ seems to. smile )

Hello good people in on the internet. As independent musicians trying to build a network of contacts to promote our music the first point I would like to make is what a major difference the internet, in particular the blogging, pod casting and interenet radio communities are having on our lives and how much we appreciate the exposure, which up until recently we could only dream of.

Today I am wearing my savvy online promoters hat which sadly does not fit very well.
Having read Guy Kawasaki’s article “How to suck up to a blogger”, which IMHO was very informative and as others have pointed out perhaps a little ethically questionable I guess there is no absolute right or wrong way to approach people to enlist their help and support, what works for some may prove ineffective for others.

I wish there were more hours in the day so I could become fully immersed in the content of every blog I get in touch with allowing me to target more effectively. Alas this is not always possible though I do try to allocate a certain number of hours each week to the task.

The majority of my time is taken up doing what we do ….making music. It may be you don’t like our music which is fine. Some of you may have already received email requests to visit sites and have a listen. The line between targeting people who may be interested and spamming is sometimes a fine one but I have a product I would like to promote and a need to make people aware my product exists.

As far as I am concerned the whole point is not payola, hype or stroking bloggers egos. If someone enjoys our music enough to want to promote it on our behalf then I would of course be eternally grateful and if we ever make any real money in this business we WILL ! Remember the people who have helped us along the way.

Yes we all have to make a living so advertising and promoting products for large faceless corporations is something many bloggers and musicians may have to consider at some stage.

However doing a good deed born of a genuine desire to help promote something you believe in is food for the soul so feed it well and often.

Are you sick of the same ol sound of todays “music”.
I love classic rock, the way the music flowed and made so much sense that you didn’t even need words. But then the lyrics came out and told a story, your story, my story. And when we here it today we get taken right back to that place we first heard it.

Hi my name is Clay, I am the lead singer for the band “ABOFA” the guys & I grew up in the classic rock era of the 70’s & 80’s, playing in the garage with our first guitar, three piece drum set, and Casio keyboards. Heck, we still love playing classic rock today.

And get this now that we are all Christians we have put quite the slant on the classic rock sound. We still play only our own originals, but we throw in some church songs, of course we give them the “ABOFA” touch.

So come on by give us listen and you’ll find out why we have our stuff in over 150 countries and only God knows how many stations in the US are spining our stuff, your bro, Clay

While you’re there join our brand new forums and talk to the guys personaly
