Mine was…

Gee, can anyone guess?

I was probably about 6 years old and my dad and grandparents were taking my brother and I to a theme park in Wisconsin (we lived in Chicago at the time.)

As we were driving up, I saw a billboard that said “degarmoandkey with *********AMY GRANT********”

That’s not actually what the billboard looked like, but that’s how my little 6 year old eyes saw it.

When I floated back down to earth, I noticed my family all smiling at me. What a wonderful surprise.

The show was great even though it started raining halfway through (it was an outdoor ampitheater). I remember she made some joke about how we didn’t need to take showers since we were getting so wet. I laughed and laughed like only a 6 year old can when someone they think is cool says anything remotely resembling funny.

What was your first concert?

Wow...the good old days with DeGarmo & Key and AMY GRANT! I remember being a kid and roller skating to “Sing Your Praise To The Lord.” Do you remember the song “Fat Baby?”

Trying to remember my first concert...it was either Steve Green or GLAD.

I don’t remember.  I think maybe David Meece.  I definitely went to a lot of those Christian groups at the amusement park concerts, though.

Amy Grant! With my parents and my little sister in Tampa (or maybe St. Pete...not sure). It was the House of Love tour, and it was awesome.

I remember being so excited for the encore--thinking it was something she was doing just for us, because we were such a good audience and screamed and clapped so loud haha.

Im a little embarassed to say that.

Let’s see, just judging from the style there, was that the unguarded tour, around 1986 or so?  I went to that concert in Spokane, Wash. 

That wasn’t my first concert, though.  That would have been...musta been...Pablo Cruise at the Oregon State Fair, some time in the early 1980’s.  I think.

I think mine was Neil Diamond at The Omni in Atlanta.  My dad was a huge fan and thought it would be fun to take me.

Well, that picture wasn’t from my actual first concert. it was purely representative of what a fan/dork I was when I was little.

No, I want to say the tour supported her Never Alone album. Not entirely sure, though. She was opening for D&K;so it wasn’t a super long set.

I went to the House of Love tour too...except I was in college at the time.

I remember thinking the same thing about the encore when I was little. So funny.

Neil Diamond...my folks were fans too.

I didnt see my first concert till i was 19, it was a 311 show in Boise, Idaho.

It was really fun.

My first was Steven Curtis Chapman and the News Boys at the Patriot Center.  Can’t remember exactly how old...maybe 11 (I’m 25).  It was the loudest thing i had experienced till then.

My first secular concert was Tanya Tucker at the Oregon State Fair.

My first Christian concert was Hyperstatic Union, David Crowder, and Third Day - it was awesome!!!!

Something must be wrong with me. I’ve never, ever, ever been to a concert. Never. I’m not sure why. It just never came up.

The closest thing to a concert I’ve been to is the last Joyce Meyer conference I went to where Matt Redman performed and I took pics of him down in front! But that was a great experience too!

I don’t even know who I’d want to see in concert...hmmmm...gotta think on that one.

My very first concert was at age 14, Deep Purple at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, FL. Why, you ask? Because Billy Preston was opening for them, and HE’S who I wanted to see. But he cancelled, and I had to sit through the concert anyway. Stunk.
First Christian concert? Well, it was probably Truth when I was in Jr. High youth group.
First GOOD Christian concert? Joe English, Bonnie Bramlett, and (in a strange twist of fate) Mylon LeFevre, a triple bill at the Grand Opera House in Macon, Georgia.

First mainstream concert: Rush in 1982, Neil Peart did a 17 minute drum solo during YYZ.

First Christian concert: dcTalk in 1995, I still have my Jesus Freak tour concert t-shirt.

Eric Clapton with my good brother.  Didn’t have any clue about classic rock, but it was a great way to be introduced.

Mine was either Michael W. Smith on the Picture Perfect tour, or Steven Curtis Chapman’s Heaven in the Real World tour.  I’m pretty sure it was Smitty (as I think that album came before Heaven in the Real World).  I remember being awed by all the fancy lights and choreography.

I don’t remember how old, only that I was in middle school. Our youth group had made the yearly trek to Six Flags Over Texas.

Our youth minister was also our music minister, and we had the usual “check-in” times throughout the day. There was this Christian concert that was happening in the afternoon, and he wanted us to all be there for the beginning and check-in. He said we were all free to go back to the roller coasters after we’d at least stuck around for 30 minutes and gave the group a chance.

I shared the bad attitude of most in my youth group. None of us wanted to go hear a group none of us had ever heard of, so we were all sure they would royally suck.

We get to the ampitheatre, and there’s a drumset and guitars and 8 to 10 wooden stools sitting on the stage. They pray, the instrumentalist all walk out, including a trumpet or two, a trombone, and a sax. We all groaned a little at that point.

Then the singers came out, and the band struck the first chords of the song.

I was already blown away. These guys were awesome.

Then, I heard the famous line used to introduce the group at the over 20 concerts I later made it to over the years:

“Ladies and gentlemen, would you welcome Roger Breland and TRUTH!”

I stayed for the whole concert, and ended up blowing all the money I had in my pocket on every CD I could buy. I went hungry the rest of the day, but now I had a “favorite” group.

I even tried out for the group a couple of times, but they already had those 4HIM guys. I guess they were ok.....

My very first was Jerry Lee Lewis at the Prison Rodeo in Huntsville, TX in 1972.  A tractor drug out a trailer in the middle of the rodeo arena, and he put on an amazing show.  I was awestruck at the people going nuts over him. 

I was curious when we saw the prison warden in a suit go to the trailer.  Then Jerry Lee says, “they told me to not be so loud.  They told me not get too rambuncous.  But I’m gonna get down if I have to do it in the dirt!!”

The entire place went nuts.  Except my dad.  He was a former drill sargent, a policeman and an all-around no-sense-of-humor type guy. 

He wanted to leave and my mom refused.  It was the most fun I had ever had at age 9.  It was loud, and the prisoner rodeo was pretty shocking for a 9 year old. 

The Imperials appeared at Baylor’s Waco Hall not long after, and that was my first Christian Concert.

My first concert was Alabama.  I was around 10.  It was a date with my dad that I will always remember.  I wore glow-in-the-dark earrings (clip ons) and saw up-close-and-personal all these lighters waving in the air.... I thought that was dumb.  I still do.  But that was one great night and a great memory.

Watermark, 5 years ago. I don’t think I’ve really been to a concert since then, though not for lack of trying. My friends don’t like the same kind of music as I do, so I usually just don’t go because I don’t want to go by myself.

I had to take a moment to recall....I am a concert addict.

4HIM! I think I was in 5th grade.  My dad was taking the young adults at our church to see them, and he said I could come too.  This was when they first started, and it was a semi-small church.  But that concert did it for me.  I became a fan, especially of Andy.  He was my first crush.  LOL.

Milli Vanilli.  For real.

Ah..I wish Amy was my first concert (though I have made up for it by seeing her close to 300 times—of course a lot of that was taking photos for her..lol)

I think my first was George Strait - hey I grew up in Texas! lol

OMG! can’t believe I’ll really mention this.  I was in high school, probably 10th grade or so. Should have seen INXS but in 1988 I wasn’t quite into them yet...so I was dating a girl...and we went to see Debbie Gibson at the Blossom Music Center outside of Cleveland Ohio.  See!!! why did i say that!? 

any guess on my second concert? NO NOT TIFFANY!  The Rythym Nation Tour of Janet Jackson! again, same girlfriend.

Once in college saw RUSH, 1991 or 1992 at Riverbend Colisseum in Cincinnati! Presto Tour, that hopefully redeemed my two previous shows!

Wow. You all went to some awesome concerts! From Eric Clapton to Milli Vanilli to Debbie Gibson.
